NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A federal grand jury indicted New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell on Friday after a long corruption investigation.

Cantrell’s lawyer, Eddie Castaing, confirmed to The Associated Press that an indictment was returned, and her name was read aloud by a federal magistrate judge as a defendant. The charges weren’t immediately known.  ...

Cantrell and her remaining allies allege that she’s been unfairly targeted as Black woman and held to a different standard than male officials, her executive powers sabotaged. Earlier this year, Cantrell said she’s faced “very disrespectful, insulting, in some cases kind of unimaginable” treatment.

Well, I am seeing a pattern here.

Corrupt lower level officials starting to do 'the walk'...

...but I'd like to see more of it on the Federal Level.

We know the corruption is there, the question is only one of identifying and proving (especially proving) it because just knowing is not enough.

Question is, are any of the judges honest enough to let it happen?

Ah, so you took "has the most corrupt politicians" as meaning "has the most numerous corrupt politicians", rather "has the politicians showing the deepest level of corruption".
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

Ah, so you took "has the most corrupt politicians" as meaning "has the most numerous corrupt politicians", rather "has the politicians showing the deepest level of corruption".

A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. Corrupt is corrupt, period. It matters not how much (except to their bank account), because even a little violates the public trust and their oath of office.

At that point, the question becomes one of how many (corrupt) politicians are there in the jurisdiction. :shrug:

The more there are, the greater the number of likely culprits.

Since power corrupts, it is rare that politicians are capable of not abusing that power, especially when that seems to be the normal course of events. Those who do not are to be revered for the rarity they are. Integrity rarely survives the campaign.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell of New Orleans, Louisiana, became the first sitting mayor in the city’s history to be indicted by a federal grand jury Friday.

Cantrell — the first woman to serve as mayor in the city’s 307-year history — has been charged on counts of conspiracy, wire fraud, false statements, fraud, conspiracy to obstruct justice and false declaration before a grand jury, documents obtained by Fox 8 show.
 
The indictment marks the culmination of a federal probe into Cantrell that first came to light in 2022, according to a WWL Louisiana report.

A grand jury began reviewing evidence in February 2024 and previously issued a related indictment last September against city building inspector Randy Farrell, accusing him of conspiring to bribe the mayor with roughly $9,000 in gifts, according to the outlet. The alleged gifts included NFC Championship tickets, a meal at Ruth’s Chris steakhouse and a cell phone in exchange for getting a city official — who was investigating Farrell over allegations of fraud — fired, WWL reported.
