DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - Gov. Kim Reynolds is directing Iowa National Guard soldiers to assist in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) mission.

According to a release from the Governor’s Office, this action is prompted by a request from the Department of Homeland Security.

In response to the request, Gov. Reynolds is ordering the Iowa National Guard “to commence a supportive federal Title 32 mission alongside Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)” beginning in September.

Twenty Iowa National Guard soldiers will offer administrative and logistical support to ICE officials enforcing immigration laws.
