AOC scored then-boyfriend free $250 ticket to Met Gala by calling him her ‘spouse’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) falsely claimed spousal privileges to snag her then-boyfriend Riley Roberts a free ticket to the swanky 2021 Met Gala, according to the House Ethics Committee, which ordered her to repay the $250 perk on top of the $3,000 she received in gifts.

Roberts scored the freebie, worth $250, because he “is considered a ‘spouse,'” Ocasio-Cortez’s attorney claimed to the ethics panel in May as part of the more than three-year investigation into the congresswoman for improperly accepting nearly $3,000 in hair accessories, shoes and her infamous “Tax the Rich” dress.

She and Roberts got engaged in 2022 — a year after the haute affair, which costs $35,000 per person.

House rules prohibit lawmakers from accepting gifts, the panel’s July 25 report noted, with an exception for tickets to “charity” balls or “widely-attended” events for themselves, spouses or their children. ...

Additionally, Ocasio-Cortez had “listed Mr. Roberts as her ‘spouse’ on paperwork filed with the House relating to privately sponsored travel, although the two were not legally married at the time of the gifted travel,” the report added. ...

The House Ethics Committee has rebuked AOC for simultaneously claiming her longtime partner, Riley Roberts, is and isn't her "spouse."  This has allowed AOC to grant her "spouse" special perks and freebies while also shielding his financial affairs from the public.

First Omar, Then James, Now AOC Accused of Lying About Who They’re Married To – The Truth Means Nothing to Them

It turns out some of the country’s best-known and most infamous Democratic women seem to have a strangely flexible concept of marriage.  ...

First, there was Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar, the Somalia-born immigrant, who has been credibly accused of presenting her own brother as her husband in a scam to help him move to the front of the line in obtaining immigration papers.

Next, New York Democratic Attorney General Letitia James found herself under investigation for real estate activities that reportedly included listing herself as her father’s “wife” for mortgage purposes.

Then, as July drew to a close, the bipartisan House Ethics Committee issued a report on New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s attendance at the 2021 Met Gala — a soiree of the rich and fatuous where Ocasio-Cortez appeared wearing an obnoxious “Tax the Rich” designer gown on the arm of a man who isn’t her “spouse” — by any definition of the word.

That last part matters a great deal because, according to the committee report, the New York City democratic socialist accepted a free ticket for then-boyfriend, now-fiance Riley Roberts (a beau whose status with AOC appears to depend on which form she’s filling out). ...

I serve on my state's ethics commission, and just got off the phone after meeting for over two hours. I'd wager we've sanctioned more bad apples (state employees, elected officials and appointed officials) in this calendar year than Congress ever has.
