What Will It Take For Never Trumpers To Return Home?
I & I Editorial Board
July 29, 2025

The political left will never recover from Trump Derangement Syndrome. President Donald Trump could put the economy on a perpetual growth path, stop World War III, bring permanent peace to the Middle East, resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and in his spare time cure cancer and put a man on Mars, and the Democrats and progressives would still blindly hate him. Would the Republicans and conservatives who have battered and cursed him since 2015 continue to bitterly disapprove of him, as well?

Trump has had an extraordinary run so far. An AI analysis by Newsweek says the first six months of Trump’s second term “have been the most ‘successful’ of any American president since Franklin D. Roosevelt” (though we’d argue that Roosevelt was a disastrous president who prolonged the Great Depression, but we do understand the comparison).

The American Presidency Project at the University of California, Santa Barbara, hardly a bastion of conservatism, says Trump has had “the most successful first six months in office for any President in modern American history.”

Former MSNBC host and top aide for Democratic Speaker Tip O’Neill Chris Matthews argues that “the country is moving toward Trump” because he “has strength” that is “greater than the Democratic strength.”

“He is a stronger public figure than the Democratic people.”

Trump is mostly right on policy ... if you don't detatch from the day-to-day twitter shennanigans, he'll wear you out and wear you down.

We'll come home if the party stops selecting showboating NY Liberals.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Trump is not just mostly, but almost entirely, right on policy goals.  Unfortunately, his shoot-from-the-hip approach to implementation, always fancying himself not merely the smartest person in the room (which he may often be), but an expert in all policy domains (which he most assuredly is not) causes more trouble for reaching those goals thank his twitter shennaingans do.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

'Twas grass-roots Republicans that elected Trump, not the Party.  The Party did everything they could to defeat him in the 2016 GOP Primary and 'contain' his first Presidency.

MAGA is an umbrella of popular post-2008/2009-financial-crisis political forces that the Party could no longer contain.  It started with the Tea Party, evolved into the Freedom Cacaucus, and gained critical mass as MAGA.

We'll come home if the party stops selecting showboating NY Liberals.

Most of them did come home.  As it turns out, they didn't trust him to drop enough bombs in the middle east or maintain an adversarial relationship with Russia.  So they're happy now, and the rest of us are just going to have to wait out his term.

Never-Trumpers remind me of die-hard Democrats of the South.

For 100 years they could never forget they lost a war and would steadfastly defend the Democrat party even though that party began throwing away all semblances of constitutional government in this country.

Growing up in the South, I have witnessed even now that stubborn resistance from changing their party affiliation because of what past generations have painted anything outside the Democrat party.

Any bozos who acknowledges that Billy Kristol, Liz Cheney, and Adam Kinzinger are their leaders,  have a serious problem with self worth and self respect.

So true, and why I was the 3rd registered Republican in the history of my county when I registered to vote in 1975.

I learned from the White Flight of the 1970s that you don't keep or improve anything by abandoning it.

I registered as a Republican in 1990, and I am not leaving.

If staying true to Adam Smith competitive capitalism and Constitutional limited government gets me labled as 'RINO'' by the Bush '43 folks, so be it.

The Massachusetts Republican Party is making incremental gains in State House Elections because they are focused on kitchen-table issues, not pie-in-the-sky policy agendas.

There is not just a dollar cost to the liberal nonsense.  There's the opporunity cost of what is not getting done - because limited resources are misspent on negative value nonsense.

The only thing those damn wind turbines off Nantucket are going to get us are higher utility bills, wasted billions of dollars, and years of alternative opportunities wasted.

Look all the years and billions wasted by the Bush-Obama-Biden years.  It's easier to focus on deficits and debts because they are more easily quantified than opportunity cost.

The less obvious, but most significant, cost of nonsense are the opportunities and time wasted.

Time is more important than money.  You can earn, steal, or counterfeit more money, but you can never get back lost time.

Imagine what could have been accomplished with the years and the trillions of dollars that have been wasted since 2000 by bad Government policies.

Efficient economies are not only necessary for wealth creation; they are necessary for survival and good quality of life.

Well spoken.

I lived in New England years ago outside the big cities and did not see the rampant liberalism that permeates those states.  I found the people I knew actually loved their country.  They had the most patriotic parades and events of anywhere I have been in the country, and the town hall -style town meetings had me thinking that the people were serious on preserving the spirit of those who created our constitution - make government local(accountable) and independent(make your own decisions, not someone doing it for you).

The big cities everywhere - your state, and even my state in Texas where I am from - are stifling the conservative form of state and federal government.  It is a disease.

It is certainly time to reign back in those idiotic policies that defame the freedoms we began this country with, courtesy of our Founders.

We just need to stay forceful to resist the baubles dangled by the politicians and educate others that there is no free lunch.

It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is to lead folks around by the nose...

This is not Conservatism. This is not TEA Party. Y'all are going to be 5 TRILLION dollars poorer at the end of this term.

And you'll be cheering. *SMH*

What will it take for #AlwaysTrumpers to stop pushing 'False Dilemma' fallacies?
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-
