For many years, Ivashov served as Chairman of the All-Russian Officers' Assembly. He left this position on May 19, 2022.

General Ivashov opposed the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine from the very beginning, in 2022, and urged Putin not to take such a catastrophic step. "This war will threaten Russia's very existence," Ivashov wrote at the time.
