Brett Hankison sentenced to 33 months in Breonna Taylor case

The former LMPD officer convicted of violating Breonna Taylor's civil rights was sentenced in federal court.


A judge sentenced Brett Hankison to 33 months with three years supervised release and a $100 fine. He is also not allowed to be an officer again or possess a gun.

Last week, President Donald Trump's Department of Justice recommended a sentence of one day in prison, with credit for time served, followed by three years of supervised release.

However, Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings chastised the prosecution for that, calling it "troubling" that it felt like they were treating this as a "crime that no one should be held responsible [for]."

Jennings alluded to the fact that, aside from Taylor and her boyfriend inside the apartment, other officers could have been injured by Hankison's actions.

There were 13 people who took the stand to testify Monday, with six testifying for Hankison and seven for Taylor's family.

Hankison's daughter pleaded for the judge to give her dad the minimum sentence.

At the very most he should have been charged with reckless endangerment for firing his weapon blindly.  But that's it.  He didn't violate her civil rights.  That's such a BS charge and the Feds looking desperate for a conviction after he was acquitted on state charges.


If Taylor hadn't been letting her ex-boyfriend deal drugs from the apartment where she and her current boyfriend lived...none of this would have ever happened.
