US MILITARY TRANSFORMATION IS INCOMPLETE WITHOUT SR UNIFORMED LEADERSHIP OVERHAUL

The new administration has done much to change the focus of the military from social/DEI issues to being a effective warfighting organization. Executive orders on the surface ended DEI. Several key military leaders that pushed DEI were replaced. The recent parade on 14 June 2025 in Washington DC showcased US military firepower and capability. The new defense bill among other things aims to provide aerial security to the mainland US and expand the number of ships in the US Navy. One key element is missing, though.

The same flag officer cohort that at best tolerated DEI and at worst energetically damaged our military is still in charge. Very few generals left and protested the loss in Afghanistan. The same is true regarding the systematic degradation of morale, recruiting, and manpower through DEI, COVID mandates, and many other destructive and politically driven processes.

Flag officers seemed to very quickly do a 180 and comply with the current administration’s directives. This demonstrates not wokeness but profound weakness of character of the current cohort of senior officers leading our military. It seems our generals will do anything to curry favor and get promoted. What is best for the military is constant, regardless of what political color controls the White House.

A rapid assessment of the loyalty and personal courage of generals and admirals must be done. To be clear, this not a check for loyalty to a President or a political party. It is loyalty to the principles of an effective military and to the country. In all likelihood, many need to be administratively purged. An entire generation of flag officers has been promoted under corrupt pretenses that rewarded political obedience and a willingness to look the other way as the nation loses wars and destroys its military. No amount of money or technology will fix this problem. Pretty parades and inflated readiness reports betray the suspect loyalty and capability of current active generals and admirals. Our service members and country deserve better. With conflicts brewing around the world, time is of the essence to properly fix the military’s leadership.
