European Allies Step Up Plans for Future Ukraine Stabilization Force, with US Attending Meeting

ROME — Countries prepared to provide troops for a post-cease-fire force in Ukraine agreed to set up a headquarters in Paris for a rapid deployment after hostilities end in Russia's war on its neighbor. A U.S. delegation was present for the first time at a meeting of the group on Thursday.

Retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, was on hand for the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the fourth annual conference on Ukraine’s recovery held in Rome.
 
Also present were Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham and Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who have co-sponsored a new sanctions bill against Russia, calling in part for a 500% tariff on goods imported from countries that continue to buy Russian oil.

French President Emmanuel Macron and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer joined the meeting via videoconference from Britain, where Macron is on a state visit.

It certainly seems like it, but I imagine Hitler thought the same thing.  But a country spread over 12 time zones presents obstacles that can be hard to overcome.  And, unless an adversary has experience fighting in Arctic conditions, and if Russia can hold them off until winter, they can still be formidable.

The Russian winter (and stretched supply lines) did more to defeat Hitler's advances there than anything else.

Having different gauge railroads made a difference, too. That, and a lot of meat to throw into the grinder.

It is being said that Russia only has twelve million people living east of the Urals. These days they lack the defensive depth to hold on to everything east of the Urals.

Russia is weak and vulnerable. Also, power abhors a vacuum.

The Russian winter Vast quantities of free American weapons (and stretched supply lines) did more to defeat Hitler's advances there than anything else

Let's not lose sight of the fact that the Soviet Union was a primary instigator of WWII, not a victim of it.  By the close of 1939, the Soviets had attacked and invaded six countries - Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Romania.

I wouldn't worry about some "peace-keeping mission" - Russia will either be defeated militarily or collapse from within. Putin has no intention, no matter how bad things get inside, Russia of 'negotiating'. Putin is putting all of Russia on a permanent war-footing, as he stockpiles troops and equipment along the Finnish border for a future attack on NATO.

Putin is putting all of Russia on a permanent war-footing, as he stockpiles troops and equipment along the Finnish border for a future attack on NATO.

Russia attacking Finland would result in the immediate invasion and liberation of Konigsberg. Sweden and Poland would be on Konigsberg like stink on poop.

Not to mention that if Russia attacks Finland the Finns will very likely take back St. Petersburg and keep it.
