FBI deputy director Dan Bongino took a day off from work Friday after clashing at the White House with Attorney General Pam Bondi over their handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, four sources familiar with the conflict told Axios.

Why it matters: The dispute erupted Wednesday amid the fallout of the administration walking back its claims about Epstein by determining the convicted sex offender didn't have a celebrity "client list," and that he wasn't murdered in his New York City prison cell in 2019.

• Bongino didn't come to work Friday, leading some insiders to believe he had quit. But administration officials say he's still on the job, even as the internal tension over the Epstein case continues.
• A source close to Bongino, though, said "he ain't coming back."

For years, the MAGA base has been demanding real accountability, not just for January 6th protestors or anti-Hillary meme posters, but for the actual predators and monsters who walk free among us under our broken, two-tier justice system.

One of the biggest demands from Trump’s America First supporters has been the truth around Jeffrey Epstein’s supposed client list. MAGA was promised sunlight on this issue. They were promised justice. And instead, many feel as if they’ve been gaslit, stalled, and handed recycled documents while the real power players skate free, without a care in the world.

From the very beginning, many believed Pam Bondi botched the Epstein rollout. MAGA supporters haven’t forgotten that awkward February stunt at the White House, where so-called “Epstein files” were handed out to conservative influencers. They were actually old files that turned out to be publicly available court records everyone had already seen. The base expected bombshells. What they got felt like a cover-up. It was an embarrassing moment for Bondi and the Trump administration.

Bondi even made the cover of the box look like some official classified documents.

If Blondi is fired, I’m told @GovRonDeSantis
 has been considered/floated for the role of Attorney General by some over the last few months.

There’s also a private push behind the scenes by some GOP donors who want to see @KenPaxtonTX
 as AG, but he has US Senate aspirations.

However, discussions have been taking place for several months about who could be Blondi’s replacement if she ever was fired or resigned.

She has not done a good job as AG and everyone knows it.

 on the joint FBI and DOJ memo regarding the Epstein Files. All of us signed off on the contents of the memo and the conclusions stated in the memo. The suggestion by anyone that there was any daylight between the FBI and DOJ leadership on this memo’s composition and release is patently false.

Ultimately, President Trump makes his own choices. Nobody tells him what to do or what to say. He’s a stable genius with a massive record of success which is why he’s President of the United States, AGAIN.

That being said, as someone who works tirelessly in support of President Trump everyday, and as someone who is very plugged in with every faction of the MAGA base, I cannot sugar coat how much good will Pam Blondi has cost the Trump admin with the base this week. She is a massive liability to President Trump and his administration.

We are coming up on the 1 year anniversary this Sunday of the attempted assassination of President Trump in Butler, PA. Donald Trump has almost been killed multiple times on his path back to the White House. One of the main reasons we sent him back to WH was so that he could clean house at the DOJ and FBI and RESTORE TRANSPARENCY AND TRUST at these agencies so that the American people could have a renewed faith in our Justice system.

Since February, Blondi has underserved President Trump and @JDVance
 by creating carnival spectacles at the White House, spending more time on Fox News than doing her job as AG, and by eroding public trust on many issues of importance to the MAGA base.

Sadly, now the base’s patience is wearing thin. The base is demoralized thanks to Blondi.

We love President Trump, but many people feel black pilled over Blondi’s lack of transparency and this is going to SUPPRESS GOP TURNOUT ahead of the 2026 midterms.

 is thinking about resigning from the FBI today as a result of Pam Blondi’s lack of transparency at the DOJ, and her poor handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files!

Some people who voted for Trump are now threatening to stay home in 2026 because of Blondi’s lack of transparency.

We cannot afford to have Trump’s second term obstructed by a Democrat controlled House. We need accountability, and Blondi has failed to perform.

I want to see President Trump thrive. He will go down in history as THE BEST President ever, but Blondi is tarnishing his admin along the way with her unnecessary distractions.

President Trump should thank Blondi for her support and relieve her of her duties.

Regardless of sentiment, just days ago Trump publicly stated what a great job Pam was doing.  He's made light of the Epstein files for a reason.  It will be interesting to see what Patel and Bongino do.  I don't quite know his reasoning but as of now, he seems to be keeping Bondi for a reason.

Same here.  I've never liked or trusted Bondi precisely for that reason and think that Trump could have done much better after the Gaetz fiasco.  This story was all over DC talk radio on my way home tonight, and word is that Bongino has already grown frustrated and tired of the government hokey-pokey he walked into, and it's damaging his marriage and family.  So this may be his off ramp. 

As for Trump...the buck stops with him, whether he wants it to or not.  He just needs to order the release of everything on Epstein (excluding the sicko children videos and photos) and own up to having screwed this up from the start.  It ain't going away, and kicking it down the road again and again will not work since nobody trusts the government, even when it's run by our side.  He, of all people, should know that.

White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields released a statement on the Bondi-Bongino clash.

“President Trump has assembled a highly qualified and experienced law and order team dedicated to protecting Americans, holding criminals accountable, and delivering justice to victims. This work is being carried out seamlessly and with unity. Any attempt to sow division within this team is baseless and distracts from the real progress being made in restoring public safety and pursuing justice for all,” Harrison Fields said.

Do you want the Senate focused on trying to get a maybe but not definitely SLIGHTLY better AG, or passing recission cuts?

I agree 100%.  This is all on Trump.  The buck stops with him, right?  Wasn't this supposed to be his DOJ/FBI "dream team"?  Yet he's acting no better than Clinton in suddenly losing interest in Epstein and dismissing his "suicide" as "old news," and "nothing to see here, move along" reaction on Wednesday seems very suspicious.

Bondi believes she’s done nothing wrong—even with the infamous Epstein binders. (!!!)

Bongino is infuriated, and rightly so. He recognizes that the Epstein files represent JUSTICE to the base. The JUSTICE they voted for when they voted for President Trump.

On October 19, 2021, Bongino said that he opposed corporate vaccine mandates, although he said he was vaccinated. He called on his employer, Cumulus Media, to end their vaccine mandate, which had been announced in September. Unvaccinated employees at Cumulus had already been fired on October 11 and replaced.
