Houthis claim Red Sea attack on merchant ship in first strike since December
21h •

Yemen’s Houthi rebels have taken responsibility for a missile and drone attack on a commercial ship traveling through the Red Sea, marking their first assault on merchant shipping in several months, Bloomberg News reported Monday.

The vessel, identified as the Magic Seas, is an Ultramax carrier owned by Greece-based Stem Shipping. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree confirmed the group launched the strike during a televised address on Monday, stating the ship was targeted due to previous visits to Israeli ports, according to the report.

Stem Shipping has yet to issue a response regarding the incident.

Houthi forces began targeting commercial maritime traffic in late 2023, causing a dramatic decline in Suez Canal transits. The waterway, a critical artery for global trade, has continued to see reduced traffic in 2025, even as major attacks had subsided. In May, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a temporary ceasefire agreement with the Houthis.

Iran's proxies use 'ceasefires' to re-arm and re-man to continue operations.  Negotiation is best done with bullets, bombs, and missiles.
