An active shooter armed with tactical gear and a rifle opened fire upon Border Patrol agents as they arrived at a Border Patrol annex facility in McAllen, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley on Monday, law enforcement sources say.

Agents and local police returned fire and killed the gunman. No federal agents were hit, but one McAllen police officer was struck. Law enforcement sources say the officer is in stable condition.

"This morning an individual opened fired at the entrance of the United States Border Patrol sector annex in McAllen, Texas. Both Border Patrol agents and local police helped neutralize the shooter," the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement to Fox News. "This is an ongoing investigation led by the FBI. More information will be shared as it becomes available." ...

MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — U.S. Border Patrol has released a statement regarding an active shooter incident Monday morning.

“Early this morning, an active shooter incident occurred at Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector Annex. The suspect is deceased. The incident is still under investigation. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available,” a release from the U.S. Border Patrol stated.

Monday morning, McAllen Police confirmed a disturbance near Wichita and Main Street. Police and other agencies responded to what police called an active crime scene.

As a result, the McAllen International Airport delayed all flights. Vehicles and passengers were not permitted to enter the terminal or parking lot, according to a city spokesperson.
