At Minneapolis 'Take Back Pride' March, Transgender Activist Sonja States: 'Imperialist Media' Wants Us To Think War On Iran Will Help Women And LGBT Rights; We Look Up To Women Like The Iranian News Anchor Interrupted By Israeli Airstrike, Not Hillary Clinton And Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar; Our Side Stands With Women; Crowd Chants: 'No War On Iran!'
Transgender activist Sonja of the Minnesota Anti-War Committee spoke at the Take Back Pride March in Minneapolis, MN on June 29, 2025, condemning Western media's "demonization" of Iran. Sonja said that media "demonization" is meant to make people believe that attacking Iran is a way to support women's rights or "save women," but declared: "We know that we are on the side that stands with women."
Sonja criticized "twisted forms of feminism" in the United States that call for bombing Iran while admiring figures such as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar. Sonja argued that admiration should instead be given to women like Sahar Emami, the Iranian TV anchor whose broadcast was interrupted by an Israeli airstrike.
Sonja also stated that the "imperialist media" wants people to believe that war with Iran is about protecting gay rights and asked whether people are supposed to believe that regime change in Iran would be "just wonderful for the LGBT community." Sonja stated: "These people think we are stupid!"
Sonja: "The U.S. wanting to wage war on Iran is not new. Something else that has been painfully consistent is the Western media's non-stop demonization of Iran. The ruling class is desperate to convince us that their war is our war. For example, they are trying to convince us that attacking the people of Iran is somehow helpful for women's rights.
