1st Gear: Trump's policies will make the U.S. come in last on electrification
 

Donald Trump does not like electric cars. He's not big on anything that could be seen as environmentally friendly, really, and that dedication to killing the planet as fast as possible is hitting the U.S. with another consequence: We're pushing ourselves out of a nascent but fast-growing economic sector. From Bloomberg:

President Donald Trump's efforts to unravel policies supporting electric vehicles threatens to turn the US into a laggard for years to come, according to a new report.

BloombergNEF reduced both its near- and long-term EV outlook for the first time, cutting 14 million battery-powered cars from its sales projections through 2030 due to the US rollback. The researcher now sees the country trailing not only China and Europe, but also the global average adoption rate until 2040.

Killing the planet, seemingly out of spite alone? Bad. Making shortsighted economic moves that favor the next quarter's profits over long-term viability? Also bad. Trump seems to be pulling the private equity playbook on the government, and it's going about as well as it goes everywhere else.

Whatever.

Donald Trump does not design EVs.
Donald Trump may not even own one (beyond golf carts--they do, after all, have their uses).
But I can't see where he is stopping anyone who wants to buy one and drive it from doing so. The market will decide that.

I also can't see where those of us who find them unsuitable for our uses should be paying into the public coffers for those who want them.

No subsidies. Let the market decide.

If those who come up with EV ideas improve them to the point where one will meet my needs at a price point that is attractive to me, perhaps I would consider them, but I'm still driving a 38 year old $800.00 pickup and I doubt any EV can compete with that.

These people think they are so clever with their little words and tactics.

It's already been proven that EV's are not viable without great improvements in the technology, so who cares if we 'fall behind'?

No.
Trump is removing all the extant "pushy government incentives" that promote EVs instead of "regular" ICE vehicles.

Once these incentives are gone, THE MARKET will determine whether EVs hold their own or "fall behind".

My prediction is that they'll capture only a small (continuing) market share.
They'll survive, but remain "on the fringes" while ICE vehicles continue to dominate.
