Border Patrol released zero illegal immigrants into US last month, down from 62,000 the previous year
Zero illegal immigrants were released into the United States in May, according to Customs and Border Protection. In May 2024, 62,000 such people were released by the Border Patrol agents into the U.S. along the southwest border.
The CBP website thanked President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem for their leadership and for helping to remove illegal immigrants from the U.S. more effectively.
The efforts come from multiple rulings from Trump, keeping his immigration promises. During his first days of his second term, Trump declared a national emergency at the border and a migrant "invasion," following 8.72 million border encounters from 2021 to 2024.
Additionally, Trump has increased military presence on the border, ended the CBP One app, which allowed migrants to schedule appointments to present themselves at ports of entry, and imposed entry restrictions, leading to a historic month for immigration enforcement.
