JUST IN: Elon Musk Issues His Final DOGE Report

SpaceX CEO and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) gave his final report and update on the organization and its mission as he is set to step down from his position after 130 days of service. During a special press conference held jointly with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, Musk revealed what his expectations are for the future of the agency.
He reiterated his belief that DOGE will, “over time,” achieve its goal to cut a trillion dollars in wasteful spending in the federal government.
While serving as a “special government employee,” Musk was in charge of making major cuts to the federal workforce to reduce spending. Initially, the Tesla CEO believed DOGE would be able to cut $2 trillion from the budget, but walked that back to $1 trillion later.
According to a report from CNN, he also lowered the total to $150 billion for this fiscal year during a Cabinet meeting held in April 2025. As he reflected on his time as the head of DOGE, he stated that identifying cuts takes “a lot of hard work.”
“It’s just a lot of work going through the vast expenses of the federal government and just really asking questions,” he explained during the press event.
The billionaire also said that he’s going to have a continuing role, but as an adviser, providing President Donald Trump with support when needed.
“I expect to continue to provide advice, whenever the president would like advice,” Musk went on to tell a reporter in answer to a question about what the future holds for him.
Trump responded, “I hope so.”
