California Democrats Rail Against Energy Regulations They Unleashed As Gas Crisis Looms

California Democrats are railing against state regulators for economic conditions they helped unleash now that a possible gas price crisis looms.

California’s Committee on Utilities and Energy grilled several state regulators on Wednesday about a possible gas price spike as two major oil refineries in California prepare to close, according to local news outlet KCRA. Despite their outrage, California Democrats have targeted the fossil fuel industry for years by creating a stringent regulatory climate, and energy companies — including their refining capacity — are withdrawing from the state, setting the table for a potentially massive 75% jump in gas prices.
 
“We have a crisis on our hand that may have been self-created by the actions perhaps taken by the state, by regulators,” Democratic Assemblyman David Alvarez of San Diego said on Wednesday at the hearing, according to KCRA.

The loss of energy jobs and income of the state is staggering.  It has already shed all of its top corporate energy companies and is actively driving out non-energy corporations as the cost of energy has skyrocketed.

Even the tech companies who will depend upon power-hungry data centers realize the state will not permit the amount of electricity that these companies require and are locating elsewhere into energy-friendly environs.

It has 4 of the top 10 oil fields ever discovered in the 50 states, yet is hemorrhaging itself into 3rd world status due to its socialist practices, similar to Venezuela.

Venezuela is a great analogy.  The ingredient for prosperity are there ... if only the Government would get out of the way.

Even the Governor of Massachusetts is giving lip service to increasing natural gas supply to keep utility prices down.

It is rare that politicians would deliver to the people what they voted for.  But California is the exception.  Voters there are most fortunate.  They are getting exactly what they voted for.  They should be ecstatic.  Higher gas prices are on the ballot in every California election.  And each time, they vote higher, higher, higher.  They are so lucky because their government delivers each time.

Unfortunately, neighboring states also get their fuel refined in California. Refineries ideally need to be near where the oil is or at least easily transported to and that was California. Those high prices will infect other states too. Like Arizona and Utah...

Well passed time to start building refineries elsewhere. But who is willing to make those required long-term investments when the government constantly demands we transfer to EVs? Just more costly government induced chaos making us all poorer while achieving nothing.

Exxon Mobil Corp. won’t be able to revive oil platforms off the California coast by relying on trucks to ship crude to refineries on shore.

Three offshore platforms, known as Exxon Mobil’s Santa Ynez Unit, have been shut down since 2015 when a pipeline ruptured and created the worst coastal oil spill in the state in 25 years.

Exxon Mobil figures it’ll probably take five more years to repair or replace the pipeline. The company estimates it spends tens of million of dollars to maintain the facilities and pays $1 million annually in taxes while SYU is shut down.

US District Judge Dolly M. Gee in Los Angeles on Wednesday denied Exxon Mobil’s request to overturn a 3-2 decision by the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors to reject the oil company’s trucking plan in 2022. The judge said while Exxon Mobil has every right to operate its offshore oil platforms, it doesn’t have a right to truck the crude.

Not with the maturity of the field off the shores of Santa Barbara producing 60 years..  Would be way too much $!.

Likely never get a permit anyway.

worth it to Exxon who has had a significant asset effectively confiscated by the state.

At a minimum, CA should purchase the fair market value of that asset.
