ICE apprehends Venezuelan woman who fled the scene of jet ski accident that killed woman on kayak at Lake Grapevine

DALLAS — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, in a joint operation with state and federal law enforcement, arrested Daikerlyn Alejandraa Gonzalez-Gonzalez, a 22-year-old citizen of Venezuela in Dallas on May 27, following a state warrant execution for felony manslaughter.

Gonzales was operating a personal watercraft with a female passenger at high speed near the shoreline of Oak Grove Park May 25, when she collided with a kayak occupied by 18-year-old Ava Moore. The collision resulted in Moore’s death. Gonzalez fled the scene with her passenger on board.

Gonzalez and the passenger returned to Oak Grove Park. The passenger remained on the scene with witnesses and was interviewed by Grapevine Police Department while Gonzalez left in a vehicle with 21-year-old Maikel Coello Perozo, also of Venezuela.

Perozo has been charged with hindering apprehension. As the investigation unfolds, more state charges could be filed.

Two suspects, both believed to be illegal immigrants, have been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run jet ski crash on Grapevine Lake in Texas that claimed the life of a teenage Air Force recruit.

Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez, 21, and Maikel Coello Perozo, 21, were taken into custody on Tuesday after allegedly fleeing the scene of a jet ski collision that killed 18-year-old Ava Moore.

According to her arrest affidavit, Gonzalez, a Venezuelan national, has been charged with second-degree felony manslaughter. Her bond is set at $500,000, Fox4 reported.

Police believe Perozo, Gonzalez's accomplice, was driving a blue Toyota Corolla used in their escape from the fatal scene.

While helping her flee, Perozo reportedly crashed into two vehicles before both suspects abandoned the car and ran.

Perozo is currently charged with an accident involving a collision, with another charge expected tomorrow.

Investigators say Gonzalez, the suspected jet ski driver, fled the crash site without offering aid and she was later identified with help from a passenger who remained at the scene.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of a 16-year-old Colombian illegal migrant on Thursday after he had only received probation for a hit and run that resulted in the death of 24-year-old Kaitlyn Weaver.

On May 13, the illegal migrant teen had been granted probation after killing Weaver last year in Aurora, Colo.

ICE confirmed the arrest of the teen and his family members on May 20 to the Daily Caller News Foundation on Thursday, with Fox’s National Correspondent Bill Melugin first reporting on the arrest. (RELATED: REPORT: Miller, Noem Call For ICE To Ramp Up Immigration Enforcement)

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a 16-year-old criminal alien from Colombia May 20 in Aurora, Colorado. The minor, who was convicted of reckless driving resulting in death, was arrested along with his family who are also illegal aliens,” ICE said.

DALLAS (AP) — An 18-year-old woman about to begin her first year at the U.S. Air Force Academy was killed when a personal watercraft hit her kayak on a Texas lake over Memorial Day weekend, setting off a pursuit by law enforcement that ended in the arrests of two people.

Ava Moore died following the collision Sunday on Lake Grapevine, a popular boating and fishing destination near Dallas. She had just graduated last week from the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School.

Authorities said Wednesday the woman accused of operating the personal watercraft is charged with felony manslaughter. She is accused of fleeing the lake in a vehicle with a man who was charged with two misdemeanors, including one related to hitting two cars as they left the scene. Both are Venezuelans who had entered the U.S. illegally in 2023, authorities said.

Advocates for police and border patrol lambasted what they said were open border policies that allowed an illegal alien suspected of killing an Air Force recruit into the country in the first place.

Joe Gamaldi, national vice president of the Fraternal Order of Police, said he was disgusted to learn 18-year-old Ava Moore, a Texas native who was about to begin cadet training at the United States Air Force Academy, was allegedly killed by someone who shouldn't have been in the United States in the first place.
 
"How many cases do we have to see where people who should not have been in this country in the first place end up causing the death or murdering someone else, someone who is here legally in this country?" he asked. "How many families have to be ripped apart? How? How much trauma do we have to take from people who should not be here in the first place?"

Moore was a star basketball player at the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School in Colorado whose goal was to become a four-star general.
