Macron has since responded to the incident, saying he and his wife were just “joking.”

“There’s a video showing me joking and teasing my wife and somehow that becomes a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe, with people even coming up with theories to explain it.”

The Macrons shocked the world on Sunday evening after footage emerged of his wife of 18 years appearing to push him as they touched down in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The act has left many speechless, but it sparked discussion among others about how the couple, who have a 24-year age gap, first met.

'I just read the comments and found out that they were teacher and student, and that [they met] when he was 15?!' one astounded user wrote.

'When you learn about how old Macron was when he met his future wife, everything else makes perfect sense,' one user posted to X, formerly known as Twitter.

'Not just the age gap,' declared another.

'More than that the fact that she was his teacher when he was just a kid is disturbing.'

The French President was just 15 years old when he met Madame Auziere, a teacher who was 39 at the time, at Lycee La Providence in Amiens.
