Key Points - The US Space Force, through its SpaceWERX innovation arm, is funding Seattle-based startup Gravitics to develop an "orbital carrier"—a space-based platform akin to an aircraft carrier.

-This system aims to host multiple maneuverable space vehicles, enabling rapid on-demand deployment and response to in-orbit threats against US satellites, such as "killer satellites" or jamming efforts from China and Russia.
 
-By pre-positioning assets in space, the orbital carrier intends to drastically reduce response times from months (for ground launches) to mere hours, enhancing the defense and resilience of critical US space infrastructure like GPS.

How About an In-Orbit Spacecraft Carrier That Could Function Like an At-Sea Aircraft Carrier?
