Here’s how 10 violent New Orleans inmates escaped jail — after leaving taunting graffiti for cops

The 10 violent inmates who escaped a Louisiana prison Friday broke out using a small window that was covered by a toilet — and left a wall full of taunting graffiti for investigators, photos show.

Orleans Justice Center officials made the shocking discovery during headcount at 8:30 a.m. — just over eight hours after the jibe-happy gang of allegedly violent offenders used the small porthole to enter a maintenance area, scale a wall and exit the New Orleans prison, WVUE reported.

One witness reported seeing all 10 inmates — clad in their matching orange jumpsuits — running across Interstate 10 in the dark of night, outlet reported.
 
“To Easy LOL,” a misspelled message directly above the small rectangular and weakly barred window read.

Let's head on over to New Orleans, where nearly a dozen inmates crawled through a hole behind a toilet and escaped prison yesterday in truly one of the most embarrassing whoopsies of all time.

I mean, what are we doing here? How does this happen? How is your prison so old and run down and poorly managed that 10 dangerous inmates pretty easily just … up and leave? What a stain on this department. Heads should roll.

A female civilian employee monitoring the pod "stepped away" to get food and missed the getaway, according to authorities.

My God. What a joke.

All that technology to detect jailbreak, but did nothing to stop it.

Sorta like US immigration laws that are not enforced.

Louisiana governor blasts 'progressive promises' after New Orleans jail escape

While seven escaped prisoners, including two murder suspects, remain at large after a dramatic jailbreak from a New Orleans three days ago, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry joined "America Reports" and issued a stern warning to those inside the jail who might have helped the inmates escape.
 
"They're gonna go to jail as well," said Landry. "Not only those people who may have aided and abetted them to get out, but those who continue to aid them, if we find them - if we find that you aided and abetted those fugitives - you're going to jail as well."

Landry said that authorities have reason to believe that most of the fugitives are still in the state of Louisiana, and most likely in the New Orleans area.

"We're gonna hunt these folks down, we're gonna find them, and we're gonna bring them back to a jail that they can't break out of," Landry said.

Was the prison just a building and not a complex?  I'm struggling to understand, since the prisons that I am familiar with all have concertina wire around the entire complex.  The inmates there could crawl out of a hole in the bathroom all they wanted to (ok, no they couldn't because there are cameras in the bathrooms and they are monitored) but they would still have to find a way through the fence before they could escape. Very strange.

A New Orleans jail worker has been arrested after admitting that he turned the water off in a toilet which allowed the inmates to remove it and escape. The maintenance worker said that an inmate threatened to "shank" him if he didn't turn off the water.

We had a prisoner escape not long ago in TX. He got over the concertina. How? Beats me. But I have a stupid relative incarcerated there that said they installed another layer of wire.

Getting out of the prison in a hole in the wall still amazes me...even with inside help. :shrug:
