If this seems unrelated, bear with me.
When I was in High School we had race riots. Enough so that the FBI arrested one student for running with H. Rap. Brown and Eldridge Cleaver over a conflagration that stemmed from riots in Cambridge, MD. State troopers walked the halls in the school, with K-9s. All but two entrances to the school were chained and locked for a time (until holy hell was raised about fire code violations).
Not a pleasant venue. Thankfully, one I was able to escape through academic achievement and my Parents' efforts. Just two years of private schooling saved me, academically, and perhaps in other ways as well.
Much of the unrest came from blacks asserting 'they had rights', and very few incidents were addressed by any authority at any lower level if at all. Well, the real mayhem came when the whites in the school decided, by golly, they had 'rights' too, and if the blacks effectively had no rules, well let the devil take the hindmost. Whites had rights, too!
Now, to today's situation, after decades of the Democrats scofflaw attitude, of them effectively getting away with, well, murder and a host of lesser crimes--even when caught, Republicans are at the point where 'they have 'rights' too!'.
I cannot abide by breaking the laws because others did and have thus far gotten away with it. The correct solution is to promptly and fully prosecute those who have violated the law, their oaths of office, and the public trust. We must be cautious when it comes to turning the tables, so we do not become that which we loathe.
