Dems Seen as "Liberal, Weak, Corrupt"
Political commentator Chris Cillizza says "polls showing that only a third of registered Democrats are optimistic about their Party strike me as very problematic. This is especially troublesome compared to polls showing that 55% of Republicans are optimistic about their Party. With most of the media attempting to paint the Republicans as an existential threat to democracy I find it remarkable that its partisans can be so optimistic. Not only are most Democrats lacking optimism, they also use words like liberal, weak, and corrupt to describe how their standard bearers are perceived by the general public."
House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) admitted "those terms don't sound very attractive or heroic, but I would argue that the majority of humanity would be most accurately described in exactly those terms. In this respect the Democratic Party does represent this majority of the population. We are liberal with public funds in our efforts to redistribute the wealth more equitably between those who earn it and those who need it. We are champions of the weaker elements of our society who can't sustain their desired lifestyle without the support of the government. And many of our leaders have been caught in corrupt endeavors to use their public office for personal enrichment. However, I would argue that this is a perfectly reasonable response to an unfair world. The trick will be to convince voters that we are the true guardians of their interests."
"It'll have to be a pretty good trick," Cillizza said. "A recent poll by Emerson College/Pix 11/the Hill found that President Trump breaks even among the voters in New Jersey--a traditional stronghold for Democrats--with a 47% approval vs a 47% disapproval rating. In contrast, Gov Phil Murphy (D) is underwater with a 40% approval and 45% disapproval rating. In the 2024 election Kamala Harris carried the state by a 6% margin over Trump. In 2020 Joe Biden carried the state by a margin of 16% over Trump. Surely, such a trend has to be concerning for Democrats?"
"Trump may be riding high now," Jeffries observed, "but we're making inroads against his unconstitutional efforts to deport foreign criminals. Numerous federal district courts have sided with us on this issue and are blocking his authority to carry out his campaign promise to get these people out of the country. We're also having similar success against Trump's efforts to reduce government waste, corruption, and abuse. These courts are ordering him to rehire government employees that he's fired and restore federal grants that he's canceled. As voters come to recognize that he cannot fulfill his campaign promises they'll come home to the Democratic Party."
Deportation of Criminals Followed by Decline in Crime
Statistics for the first three months of the Trump Administration show a sharp decline in crime in several Colorado sanctuary cities. In Denver, homicides deceased by 58%. In Aurora they decreased by 36%. During this three month period, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested 538 illegal aliens from these cities.
Trump Administration "Border Czar" Tom Homan explained that "our focus on removing the worst of the foreign criminals preying on American citizens from these communities has significantly improved safety. This is a sharp contrast from the Biden Administration's soft-on-crime attitude that allowed millions of unvetted aliens to invade our country."
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston (D) called the drop in crime "a statistical fluke. There's no way that the lawless actions of ICE could have achieved what is claimed. None of the immigrants arrested were given due process before they were rounded up in surprise ICE raids. Several federal judges have ruled that these individuals cannot be deported or must be returned to the US if they have already been illegally removed."
Governor Jared Polis (D) insisted that "the gang members were awarded refugee status by the Biden Administration because they faced the risk of being murdered by rival gang members in their Venezuelan homeland. The idea that they could be sent back there by Trump sends shivers down my spine. I will work day and night to try to block the deportation of these individuals so they can have a chance to live and prosper in our country like the motto on our Statue of Liberty promises."
Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlin asserted that "the City of Aurora and Aurora PD are actually in a really good spot right now. Our crime numbers are down 22.8% overall. This seems like progress to me."
Newsom to Close Another State Prison
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is calling for the closing of another state prison in his proposed budget for the next fiscal year. It will be the fifth prison closed during his two terms as governor. He said "the notion that we can successfully suppress crime by incarcerating offenders is mistaken. The internal environments of our prisons don't strike me as effective. Every prison has gangs that intimidate and terrorize inmates such that the only way to survive is by joining a gang. It is inhumane to subject anyone to this type of life."
The Governor says he is "confident that our 'pincer strategy' of decriminalizing moderate amounts of theft with a lenient adjudication can keep more of our offenders on the outside. Knowing you are less likely to be sent to prison makes you less desperate and less of a danger to society. An underappreciated side of this is that a sentence of community service instead of incarceration can build character in a way that years in a cell can't."
"The money we save by shutting down another prison can be redirected to two higher priorities," he pointed out. "First, the chronically delayed and over-budget high speed rail project could use another infusion of several billions of dollars. Second, the growing medical needs of millions of migrants to whom we given sanctuary demands a growing infusion of tax revenue to fund this vital health care."
Ironically, this latter proposed use of the money redirected to funding medical care for illegal migrants is the subject of an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). "Radical left politicians in California prioritize illegal aliens over our own citizens, including by giving illegal aliens access to cash benefits," said DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. "The Trump Administration is working together to identify abuse and exploitation of public benefits and make sure those in this country illegally are not receiving federal benefits or other financial incentives to stay here illegally. Persons who are in this country illegally need to leave now. DHS will assist their departure. By voluntarily leaving they will eligible to return in the future through the legal immigration protocols."
Newsom belittled Noem's advice, saying "those immigrants who have already done the hardest part of getting into this country shouldn't be swayed by her insincere offer. As long as Trump and his successors run the federal government these migrants will never be allowed back. Their better option is to stay, register to vote, and cast their ballots for Democrats who will defend their interests in perpetuity."
Noem pointed out that "Gov. Newsom's advice is for illegal immigrants to continue to break the law, to compound the charges against them by illegally registering to vote and casting ballots in elections in which it is illegal for them to participate. The federal government may be forced to prosecute, convict, and place him in a federal prison that is not scheduled for shutdown."
Judge Confident She Will "Beat the Rap"
Though a federal grand jury has indicted Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan for obstructing the apprehension and arrest of illegal immigrant Eduardo Flores-Ruiz by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel she says she is "confident I will beat the rap because the US Supreme Court has just ruled that judges have a universal right to block the enforcement of laws they don't like."
"Trump thinks his election to the presidency is a mandate from the people to enforce the nation's immigration laws," Dugan said. "But I don't. Presidents come and go and are term limited. Judges are appointed for life. We are the people the Founding Persons trusted to be the ultimate authority on which laws ought to be enforced and which ought to be struck down as unconstitutional. I will issue an injunction overruling the grand jury and forbidding further prosecution of me for my efforts to aid the escape of Mr. Flores-Ruiz from ICE persecution."
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) hailed "the courageous action of this Milwaukee County Judge to stand up for the right of free migration into America. Our Constitution guarantees every person the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is tyranny for Trump to deny these rights to anyone who lives in America. This includes not only the hard-working immigrants who mow your lawns and make your beds, but everyone regardless of social status."
The Representative boldly asserted that "these rights are inalienable rights. That means they can't be waved away because a person is accused of domestic abuse, assault, rape, murder, or membership in an ethnic group social club like Tren de Aragua or MS-13. It is frightening that members of Congress who are standing up for these rights are being threatened with arrest and prosecution by Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. I'm warning her and Trump that there will be Hell to pay if they lay one finger on any of them."
Assistant Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Tricia McLaughlin pointed out that "all of the individuals held at the Delaney Hall Detention Center in Newark entered our country illegally. All are accused of heinous crimes. Why are Democrats investing so much effort railing against the removal of these people from our society? Do they think that preying on innocent victims is a legitimate pursuit of happiness? Do they not understand that voters elected President Trump in order to remove these predators from our country?"
Dems Sponsor Bill to Make "Gender Identity" a Protected Class
Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga) and Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich) are co-sponsoring the Equality Act. this legislation would make "gender identity" a protected class under federal anti-discrimination law. It would require schools to open female-only spaces to biological males who identify as transgender girls, including sports teams.
"I realize that opponents of my bill predict that allowing males to participate in women's sports would effectively abolish segregation by sex and lead to the demise of unique female only teams," Ossoff admitted. "I say so what. Isn't the existence of separate teams a disparagement of females. Doesn't it say that these females aren't up to the challenge of a totally open competition? Doesn't coddling females harm their sense of self-worth? Why shouldn't males who are not able to compete with other males be able to compete with females?"
If Ossoff and Stevens expect their support for the Equality Act will aid their chances in the 2026 elections they are probably mistaken. While Democrat progressives are enthusiastic about reshaping society by eliminating distinctions between actual females and faux females, most Democrats are not. A New York Times survey conducted in January found that almost 70% of voters who lean Democrat oppose allowing transgenders to join female sports teams. However, Stevens said "I am confident that once we pass this law voters will fall in line. It's one thing to oppose a concept. It's quite another to oppose a law passed by Congress. As champions of this law I believe Jon and myself will experience a rising tide of support as election day approaches."
RFK & Congessman Spar Over Fluoride
In testimony before the Congressional Committee on Appropriations this week, Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F Kennedy, Jr. wrangled with Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Id) over whether governments should be adding fluoride to drinking water.
Simpson questioned whether Kennedy's opposition to fluoridating was wise, saying "as a dentist I am acutely aware of statistics showing that where water is fluoridated cavities are rarer. I fear that removing it will lead to an epidemic of rotting teeth among our population. Are you indifferent to this risk?"
Kennedy responded saying "the National Toxicity Program issued a report in August 2024, a meta review of all the science that now exists on fluoride, and showed a direct inverse correlation between fluoride exposure dose and lower IQ. We also now know that virtually all the benefit from fluoride is from topical applications, and we can get that through mouthwashes and fluoridated toothpastes. There is no need to force feed it to everyone who drinks tap water. Since we have less toxic ways of using fluoride to fight tooth decay, it is foolish to bear the risk of lowering people's intelligence by feeding them fluoride."
"I'm not sure that's a good trade-off," Simpson said. "The IQ connection is only a correlation. Even if fluoride does lower IQ the advancements made in artificial intelligence lessens the importance of being smart. On the other hand, having strong teeth is important for enjoying good food. I think fluoridation is good for us all."
