House Democrat to Introduce Reparations Resolution: ‘Moral and Legal Obligation’ for U.S. to Pay ‘Trillions’ of Dollars

Hannah Knudsen 14 May 2025

Democrat Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) is slated to introduce a reparations resolution this week, as she believes it is a “moral and legal obligation” for Americans.

The resolution itself involves the U.S. spending “trillions” on reparations for black Americans. The resolution points to Jim Crow laws as part of the justification for the use of U.S. tax dollars going toward this effort.

“This is a moment in time where societies are shaped [and] new societies are built. We should be the ones who are shaping it,” Lee said, enraged that President Donald Trump ended many diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) measures with the “stroke of a pen.”

“That’s why we recognize that the fight to restore black folks has to be so much more substantive,” she added.

The news comes on the heels of several proponents of reparations — including Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), Rep. Ayanna Presley (D-MA), Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA), and Rep. Lee — participating in a congressional briefing on Tuesday titled “We Can’t Wait: Advancing Reparative Justice in Our Lifetime.”

The briefing was organized in partnership with the National Black Justice Collective, Black Lives Matter Global Movement Fund, and the Black Music Action Coalition.

The event listed several pieces of “key” legislation, which include Lee’s “Reparations Now Resolution” as well as Booker and Pressley’s “Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans Act.”

Summer "Ghetto" Lee.  The face of Black Fatigue.
You don’t become cooler with age but you do care progressively less about being cool, which is the only true way to actually be cool.

  • Well EXCUSE me!
I am pretty damn sure that “moral obligation” this “person” is yammering about was already met by all the Union soldiers that gave life and limb, have Blacks ever met their “moral obligation” to them? It would be the right thing to do.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
One Hundred and Sixty years.

Considering my ancestors arrived with little other than tools and ballast brick from the ship they came in on, and were self-sufficient early on, WTF have these people been doing for the past 160 years?

Those who sold them at the docks, on the other side of the pond, were not selling off their best. They were selling captives, those sold into slavery by their own tribes or captured in battle. You don't sell your most valuable people for trinkets and tools.

But here, for 160 years, after a lot of time for some seeing how things work, and then being freed at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives, not to mention limbs, for a time there was a period of pride and actual accomplishment, of social stability, family values, growing groups of educated and innovative people. But the 1960s and the New Left came along, with the destructive forces of The Great Society and Planned Parenthood, and cultural decay set in that is ever more evident in segments of the demographic. With that came those opportunists spewing socialism and victimhood and blaming anyone and everything else for the lack of performance and cultural decay that has become increasingly evident over the past half century.

For this, those who enable this cultural rot want me to pay out of everything I have earned by the sweat of my brow, even as they skew hiring practices and make it more difficult to make a living?

POUND SAND.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

  • Dems-greatest existential threat to USA republic!
As long as the monies for reparations come from Democrats solely, then I fully support the notion.  Yes, make the Democrat Party pay said reparations, since they are the ones that fully supported slavery, and they are the ones that enacted Jim Crow Laws.

No one in all the many generations in my family had anything to do with slavery as is true for 98% of America.  Not one person alive today had anything to do with slavery, so why should they be forced to pay anything?  And no one today is a former slave unless they were a slave in modern Africa, and again, that is not our problem.

I am tired of hearing blacks complain about their lot in life.  Get off your posterior and work like everyone else!

More accurately, that's Summer Lee (Commie - Pa.).

Too bad she doesn't care about restoring black folks to two-parent, church-going families.
