The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is moving to ax credits for vehicles with start-stop technology.

Obama-era regulatory credits benefiting manufacturers for supplying vehicles with engines that automatically shut off when stopped to save gas will be rolled back, according to an EPA spokesperson. Though championed by environmentalists, EPA administrator Lee Zeldin critiqued the feature, writing that “everyone hates it.”

“Start/stop technology: where your car dies at every red light so companies get a climate participation trophy. EPA approved it, and everyone hates it, so we’re fixing it.” Zeldin wrote on X on Monday.

Good. I guess putting double or more mileage on starter motors is somehow more environmentally friendly than just letting the engine idle for a few minutes. I wouldn't buy one of these vehicles if you sold it to me for a dollar.

Thank God.  It was so tiresome that the stop/start was the default position requiring you to disable it at each start.
You don’t become cooler with age but you do care progressively less about being cool, which is the only true way to actually be cool.

My mother-in-law has a newer model Subaru station wagon with a stop-start engine.

The first time I experienced it shutting itself off at a red light, I thought the damn thing stalled. 

Brought back nightmares of $h!tboxes past - like one where a friend had to spray gum-out into the carborator, as someone else tried to turn it over, just to get it to start.

I always check my rear view when stopped.

If someone is coming up fast, I want to be able to go.
