AG Paxton Leads Sen. Cornyn By Double Digits In Texas Senate Race, Poll Shows

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is leading Republican Sen. John Cornyn by double digits in the 2026 Texas Senate race, according to a recent Republican primary poll.

Paxton is ahead of Cornyn by 16 percentage points — 56% to 40% — in a two-way poll commissioned by the Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), Punchbowl News first reported on Monday. Meanwhile, in a hypothetical three-way matchup with Republican Texas Rep. Wesley Hunt, who is reportedly considering entering the primary contest, Paxton notched 44% of the vote to Cornyn’s 34% and Hunt’s 19%.

SLF, a super PAC that supports Republicans, is backing Cornyn’s Senate reelection bid. Senate Majority Leader John Thune and National Republican Senatorial Committee chair Tim Scott have encouraged President Donald Trump to endorse Cornyn in the Senate GOP primary, CNN first reported in April. Trump has yet to make an endorsement in the contest.

The survey also found that in a head-to-head matchup with former Democratic Texas Rep. Colin Allred, who is reportedly mulling another Senate run, Cornyn led by 6 points and Hunt led by 4 points — but Paxton trailed by 1 point, Punchbowl News reported. Allred was the failed Democratic nominee for Texas’ other Senate seat in 2024, losing to incumbent Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz by 8.5 points.

Cornyn will not last until the primary. He will announce his retirment before taking that drubbing.

it would be an act worthy of a good Texan if he does.

I have my doubts it will happen though, as we may see millions of $ wasted and some vicious attacks as the Uniparty unites behind Cornyn

Cornyn is a dud, but if he is being primaried, the replacement had better be strong for the general election.  Ted Cruz nearly lost the first trump midterm, and Texas is not a cheap state to defend.

They don't come any stronger than Ken Paxton who will beat whoever the Democrats run by a mile.

To give you an idea of how accurate the pre-election polls are in Texas races, here is a poll showing the race between Ted Cruz and Colin Allred in the 2024 Senate race: Cruz 48%, Allred 47%, less than a week before the election. In the actual election, Cruz won 53% to 44.5%, a difference of 8.5 percentage points.

The moral is, don't pay too much attention to the pre-election polls showing the Democrat winning or holding close to the Republican candidate in Texas. The poll results are manipulated to show the Democrat candidate doing better than they really are, so that Democrat donors don't give up and stop sending in money to their candidates.

Rest assured, Paxton would beat any Democrat handily in the general election. He won his re-election to Attorney General in 2022 by 9.5 percentage points.

Sorry, hasty typing and poor proofreading on my part, before pressing the Post button.

Thanks for pointing it out. I've corrected my original post. Paxton would easily beat any Democrat.  tipping hat!!

  • Dems-greatest existential threat to USA republic!
Ken Paxton is a real conservative.  I see him winning easily, I do not care what polls say.

Who conducts the poll makes all the differences.  So many sources for polls are screaming liberal in their orientation.  Even operations that are supposed to be non affiliated tend to be aligned with liberal beneficiaries like George Soros.  Soros funds quite a few of these operations that most would think are independent and not having a political preference.  Pew Research is one such Soros funded group.

the Unity party is alive and well in Texas unfortunately.

That's why they impeached Paxton
