India attacks Pakistan with air strikes: Nine 'terrorist camps' hit as Karachi threatens to retaliate - prompting fears of war between two nuclear-armed states

India fired missiles across the border into nine Pakistani 'terror camps' in PakistanI-controlled Kashmir, days after it blamed Islamabad for a deadly attack on the Indian side of the contested region.

'A little while ago, the Indian Armed Forces launched 'OPERATION SINDOOR', hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed', a statement from the Indian Armed forces said.

No military facilities were targeted in the strikes, the statement added.

The strikes came amid soaring tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors over last month's militant attack on tourists in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir.

India has blamed Pakistan for backing the militant attack, which Islamabad has denied.

The missiles struck locations in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and in the country's eastern Punjab province early Wednesday, according to three Pakistani security officials.

One of them struck a mosque in the city of Bahawalpur in Punjab, where a child was killed, and a woman and man were injured, one official said.

The officials said Pakistan had launched retaliatory strikes, without providing any details.

Not really a 'new' war. This is a war that began and has been simmering since the end of WWII.
I do not know why they chose this particular time to launch into active warfare?

More now from Pakistan military spokesperson Ahmed Sharif, who is speaking to our colleagues on the BBC News channel.

He says the military has shot down at least two Indian jets and a drone.

Sharif says Pakistani forces are on the ground but refuses to specify where.

He says Pakistan has a right to defend itself and that defence is currently under way.

The Reuters news agency meanwhile is quoting Pakistan's defence minister as making the same claim that Indian planes have been shot down.

It must drive our “defense” establishment INSANE to be on the outside of this conflict looking in.  Time for them to crown the next Hitler so the contractors can be paid off.  You can bet it’s a paki, because of that country’s animosity to our bestest ally.

It appears that neither Pakistan or India are NATO members so we may not be obligated to intervene. I'm not sure what agreements we may have with either country that would require our help. :shrug:

To the best of my memory, the last time this flared up...we didn't intervene. And it died down. That is my hope for the current conflict.

India vs. Pakistan belongs entirely to Britain historically. And it is even more fitting today, considering that over 90% of British government officials and bureaucrats are all Indians and Pakistanis.
