I would have greatly preferred that picture.

First of all: it is vastly more meaningful than the "flying bullet" photo, perfectly capturing a viscerally emotional moment in American history.

Secondly, the photographer went to school with my daughter and took several beautiful photographs of her, one of which is right here in my office.

IMO the chosen photos did besmirch Trump and his heroic reaction to the near miss.

The "winning" photos make the bullet the subject and Trump a passive character.

in researching the award, it was given not just for the "bullet" photo, but for the entire Mills series including those displaying Trump as wounded and bravely defiant.

All in all, I think that's probably fair.
