California searches for new ways to combat the homelessness crisis

California is confronting record homelessness with cities taking different approaches, from stricter enforcement in San Francisco to shelter-first programs in San Rafael. With funding in question and no clear solution, leaders and advocates say the crisis is far from over.

Two things come to mind immediately:

Stop inviting every homeless person to California with the GENEROUS welfare to them.

Stop chasing businesses (employers) out of the state with over regulations and taxes to pay for the homeless.

Deport them to El Salvador or South Africa. The surplus population of mentally ill and hopeless druggies need to go.

... a one-way bus ticket out of state is the most cost effective.

The homeless are not just unhoused, they may also ...

1.) have untreated substance abuse issues
2.) have untreated mental health issues
3.) be illegal border crossers
4.) be wanted criminals on the lam
5.) be physically disabled
6.) be illiterate or have an undiagnosed learning disability
7.) be families escaping domestic abuse
8.) be too ill to work
9.) be displaced by disaster

Many people don't realize how close they are to being unhoused.  It only takes a layoff, an illness, house fire, or death of a provider to put you on the streets.

The unhoused is an issue than won't be solved by FEMA trailers alone.

It will take time, which politicians want to spend elsewhere, and money, which politicians want to spend elsewhere.

The unhoused are an under-represented political constituency because they lack a street address for voter registration.
