Zelensky says he wants to meet with Trump at the pope's funeral this week

The pope's funeral will be held in St. Peter's Square in Vatican City.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he wants to meet with President Donald Trump at Pope Francis's funeral on Saturday.

"Yes, I would like to, I am ready," Zelensky said Tuesday when a reporter asked him about meeting Trump, according to the Bloomberg news. "We are always ready to meet with our partners from the United States."

The Pope died Monday at age 88. His funeral will be on Saturday in St. Peter's Square in Vatican City.

Other world leaders expected to attend the funeral include French President Emmanuel Macron and Argentinian President Javier Milei.

The Trump administration has for months been in talks with Russia and Ukraine to get a ceasefire or end to the countries' roughly three-year-long war.

Rome would make a serious terrorist target for this funeral. Nearly all the non-Muslim world leaders and essentially all the world's cardinals in one place at the same time. A rare event and therefore a major opportunity. In addition, there has been plenty of time to prepare for it, knowing it was coming.

Dangerous times.

Absolutely not the time or place.

And with the rumor mill indicating that Ukraine may have been involved with all of the Trump assassination attempts, the very last person Trump needs to spend time with is Zelensky.  And Zelensky is once again balking at the terms of the agreement to end the war.

I say President Trump should not send an emissary to even sit down and talk to the fool in Rome.  Begin the process of exiting peace talks now.

This time, the Kiev regime leader repeated his position that he will never recognize Crimea as part of Russia, and also presented a slew of other demands – it sounds like he believes his country is winning the war.

Besides that, in the UK there was nasty a reporting with official sources stating that host Foreign Secretary David Lammy was to ‘make sure Kiev’s negotiators were not led into an ambush’.

With all that lack of respect, it’s not surprising that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio decided not to attend the London talks.

Zelensky does not know President Trump very well.  I can see Trump walking away from the peace talks, and ending any support for Ukraine.  Zalensky wants everything for free.  Trump wants a price to be paid.  The leverage is with Trump.

At no time did I see defending Ukraine as something necessary to protect the rest of Europe, particularly the NATO nations.  There is no way Putin would make the mistake of attacking a NATO nation.  He is not that stupid.
