Harvard has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration for freezing $2.2 billion in federal grants after the prestigious university refused to comply with the government’s demands for reforms in hiring practices, battling antisemitism, and admissions practices.

As Breitbart News reported last week, Harvard said it would not comply with Trump administration demands, arguing that reforms in those areas should not be attached to federal funding. In a letter to the administration, Harvard said it made “changes to its campus use policies” to address antisemitism, asserting that the demands “invade university freedoms long recognized by the Supreme Court.”

“It is unfortunate, then, that your letter disregards Harvard’s efforts and instead presents demands that, in contravention of the First Amendment, invade university freedoms long recognized by the Supreme Court,” the letter said. “The government’s terms also circumvent Harvard’s statutory rights by requiring unsupported and disruptive remedies for alleged harms that the government has not proven through mandatory processes established by Congress and required by law.”

The Trump administration responded by freezing $2.2 billion of Harvard’s $9 billion in federal grant money. The Harvard Crimson, the university’s student-run newspaper, reported:

The Trump administration paused $2.2 billion in multi-year grants and $60 million in multi-year contracts to Harvard over its decision earlier today to reject the White House’s demands — a dramatic escalation in its crusade against the University.

The move came just hours after Harvard President Alan M. Garber ’76 issued a resounding rebuke of the Trump administration’s demands, calling them coercive and beyond federal authority.

The federal antisemitism task force wrote that Garber’s decision was a clear sign that Harvard was refusing to “commit to meaningful change” to address antisemitism on campus.

Dershowitz: Harvard Lawsuit Meritless ‘About a Third’ of Trump’s Demands ‘Are Right’, Another Third Negotiable

On Monday’s broadcast of Newsmax TV’s “The Record,” Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz stated that Harvard will lose its lawsuit with the Trump administration if it goes to the Supreme Court since the government is under no obligation to fund Harvard and he believes the suit is a negotiating tactic by Harvard that will ultimately settle. He also stated that “About a third of the things that the government asked for from Harvard are right, they should do it, a third of them may be wrong, and about a third of them are subject to negotiation.”

Dershowitz said, “Harvard’s going to lose. It has no obligation, legally, the government, to fund a $53 billion university. I don’t understand the basis of the lawsuit. They’re claiming First Amendment. But Harvard has the First Amendment right to speak and to teach and academic freedom, but it doesn’t have the right to get funding. I think the lawsuit is designed to send a message to the administration, come sit down and negotiate. There are two lawyers who they hired initially are negotiators. They’re close to the Trump family and Trump business. And I think this is simply a ploy to try to get a resolution.”

Harvard has been riding on a reputation from decades ago, and it just is not what I consider to be a quality education.  I have worked with two folks that went to Harvard, and neither one could find their posterior with both hands and a flashlight.  Functionally dumb as sh*t!!!!!!!

Dershowitz is, of course, Right. We, the People are under no obligation to fund Harvard. Let their alumnae, and others willing to pony up some cash do the job. They are not entitled to our tax dollars.
