It’s nice when corrupt Democrats get what they deserve.

After spending years pursuing Donald Trump like Captain Ahab chasing his white whale, New York Attorney General Letitia James now finds herself in the uncomfortable position of defending her own alleged financial misdeeds. The irony is almost too delicious to bear.
 
James, who proudly trumpeted her $454 million judgment against Trump for supposedly inflating asset values, is now desperately trying to explain away accusations that she committed mortgage fraud. As we’ve previously reported, the self-appointed champion of justice allegedly falsified records to secure home loans and—get this— claimed a Virginia property as her "principal residence" while serving as New York's top law enforcement officer. You can't make this stuff up, folks.

Now that Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte has referred her case to the Justice Department, James is doing what Democrats do best: playing the victim card.

In the Gateway Pundit, I recently documented how Letitia James misrepresented the number of apartment units in her apartment building when applying for loans and refinancing.

Letitia repeatedly told banks and the US government that her apartment building at 296 Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn only had four apartment units, when in fact the official Certificate of Occupancy for her building indicates it had five.

Letitia James lied about her property in Brooklyn being a 4-family dwelling when she knew it was a 5-family dwelling. This helped her save money on her insurance premiums.

The significance is that Letitia qualified for lower interest residential rates with only four units, while five-apartment units are assigned higher commercial rates. In addition, James obtained a government HAMP loan that was not even vailable to borrowers with more than four units.

Letitia James lied when she signed legal papers stating her dwelling was a 4-family flat.

Separate from the Brooklyn building, Sam Antar has documented, on his. website White Collar Fraud, that Letitia James claimed that a home she purchased in Norfolk, Virginia, would be her primary residence, a designation that also garners more favorable loan terms from banks.

Bill Pulte, Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, sent a criminal referral to the US Justice Department citing these problems in Letitia James’s mortgage history.

Now scrutiny is shifting to insurance fraud.

Firstly, this regards James’s claim of residence for a home mortgage in Norfolk, Virgina. Whether a home is owner-occupied or not plays a significant role in how insurance companies determine rates for homeowners’ insurance.

Owner-occupied homes – the primary residence in which the homeowner actually lives – are typically considered lower risk by insurers. They believe that these home are better and regularly maintained and monitored, and that issues like water damage, fire, or theft are more likely to be caught early or prevented altogether.

As a result, insurance premiums for owner-occupied homes are generally lower. These policies often come with standard coverage packages, such as HO-3 policies, which include protection for the dwelling, personal property, liability, and loss of use.

In contrast, non-owner-occupied homes, such as rental properties, vacation homes, or vacant houses, pose a higher risk and usually come with higher premiums.

For rental properties, landlords need specialized insurance (often called DP-3 policies) that covers the dwelling, liability, and potential loss of rental income.

Since tenants may not maintain the property as carefully as a homeowner would, the risk of damage increases, leading to more expensive coverage.

New York Attorney General Letitia James is the target of an ethics complaint after she was referred to the Department of Justice for alleged mortgage fraud.

On April 15, Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche alleging that James “falsified” records to secure home loans for her Norfolk, Virginia, property. Citing the criminal referral, the Trump-aligned America First Legal submitted a bar complaint with the New York State Unified Court System seeking an investigation and possible disciplinary action.
 
AFL senior litigation counsel Nicholas Barry wrote that it appeared James had "repeatedly traded in her integrity for a monetary benefit through deceiving lenders and the public in pursuit of personal enrichment," actions that "harm the rule of law and bring disrepute to the profession."

"The New York Bar Committee on Professional Standards for the Albany region should immediately launch an investigation into Ms. James’ actions, and if it determines the allegations are true, impose appropriate discipline," he added.

Taxpayers could be forced to fund New York Attorney General Letitia James’ legal bills stemming from real estate fraud allegations levied by a Trump Administration official, according to a report from the New York Post.

Democrats in the state legislature are expected to sign off on a provision allowing certain official to use up to $10 million in funds to cover “any reasonable attorneys’ fees and expenses incurred,” even if the conduct in question is directly related to their state employment.

The language has been quietly slipped into New York’s operations budget bill, The Post reported. Lawmakers are expected to soon vote on a number of budget proposals that will be made public as early as Wednesday as the legislature works to pass next year’s fiscal plan.

Multiple sources told the outlet that specific language in the bill would apply to James’ looming legal fight.

The attorney general was recently accused of mortgage fraud by Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director William Pulte in a criminal referral to the U.S. Department of Justice.

James is accused of listing a Virginia property she purchased in 2023 as her “principal residence” despite serving as attorney general of New York at the time. New York requires its attorneys general to live in the state for five years before running for office, and requires them to reside there during their tenure
