There might literally be "pain"...$7.84 Billion in annual drug imports from China. Can Medicaid, Medicare Part D plans, private insurance and cash buyers afford a 100% increase in cost for some drugs? Time will tell I guess.

China does not have a private economy.
China does not have private intellectual property rights.

China's trading relationships are a Chinese Communist Party strategy to catch up economically and technically with the West via theft.

China's 'promise' of cheap labor, no environmental law impediments, no labor law impediments, and 1 billion new consumers - a manufacturing business utopia - is the lure for the West to sell China the rope which the Chi-coms will use to hang the West.

So, WTF was China allowed to join the WTO and to be been given Most Favored Nation trading status?  Greedy, lazy, corrupt, short-sighted, and naeve American leadership?  The same Big Tech kleptocratic oligarchs that are 'shocked' that Trump is imposing tariffs?  They are dumb or selectively willfully blind.

Conditional MFN status first granted by Jimmy Carter in 1980.  That status was made permanent by Bill Clinton in 2000 as part of China being granted entry into the WTO.
