Authorities in New York City are investigating after a helicopter crashed into the Hudson River on Thursday afternoon.

Officials with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed a helicopter was in the water, as of 3:40 p.m.

"Due to a helicopter crash in the Hudson River, in the vicinity of the West Side Highway and Spring Street, expect emergency vehicles and traffic delays in the surrounding areas," according to a statement from the NYPD.

It is unclear if there were any injuries or fatalities.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.

It just dropped out of the sky..I don't see the rotors turning...engine failure?

I did not see a tail rotor boom, although counter rotating main rotor craft do not have one.
Did not look like autorotation...(where the main rotor(s) provide some lift without power).
Some sort of serious failure either way.

You can still see the rotor blade and other pieces of the chopper falling from the sky after the chopper hits the water

None of the main rotor blades look to be full length.

Edited to say: the cabin was inverted, those were the skids, not rotor blades, which were not attached.
