Canada's new Liberal prime minister likened to Marie Antoinette after being asked about grocery shopping

Canada's new prime minister, Mark Carney, has been likened to Marie Antoinette after he admitted he doesn't do his own grocery shopping.

'I have to give you a strange answer, because as prime minister, I no longer buy strawberries and all that. Someone does it for me,' the liberal said when asked if he still buys US food products.

Andrew Scheer, a conservative member of Parliament, took the opportunity to slam Carney, writing: 'Move over, Marie Antoinette!'

The parliamentarian's fellow conservatives quickly piled on on Carney, accusing the former banker of being out of touch.

'Carney tried to make it sound like this is because he’s PM. Yet, Carney was only sworn in as PM 3 weeks ago,' said conservative senator Denise Batters.

'I bet he has never done his own grocery shopping,' wrote X user Bijan Daei.

However, many X users disagreed with the backlash against Carney, arguing it is normal for a man of Carney's position not to do his own grocery shopping.

One X user wrote: 'Andrew, I would rather our PM be “out of touch” than cost tax payers tens of thousands of dollars in personal security every time he fancies a parfait.'
