‘Hands Off’ Rallies to Be Held Saturday to Protest Donald Trump, Elon Musk

Anti-Trump protestors will gather across the nation on Saturday to tell President Donald Trump and Elon Musk to “take your hands off our healthcare, our Social Security, our civil rights, our freedom, and our education.”

A statement from the national organizers said “Hands Off” is a “national day of action” that will bring together lawmakers, community leaders, and “everyday people” to “call on Trump and Elon Musk to take their hands off the programs that the middle class and working families rely on.”

The Hands Off website states, “Donald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them. They’re taking everything they can get their hands on, and daring the world to stop them. On Saturday, April 5th, we’re taking to the streets nationwide to fight back with a clear message: Hands off!”

“With Trump and congressional Republicans doubling down on their agenda to gut essential services, everyday Americans are sending a clear message: Take your hands off our healthcare, our Social Security, our civil rights, our freedom, and our education,” the organizers continued.

One of these many protests will be held in Boston, Massachusetts:

    The Boston protest will begin with a march to City Hall Plaza, where a rally will be held. Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey heads a long list of speakers. They’re expected to begin their speeches at 12:30 p.m.

    Organizers said there will also be a “special acoustic set from the Dropkick Murphys.” The event is expected to end around 2 p.m.

The Hands Off protests are planned for all 50 states in the union. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), League of Women Voters, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and other advocacy groups focusing on climate change and alleged voting rights will attend.

“This is the moment where we say NO,” the website continued. “No more looting, no more stealing, no more billionaires raiding our government while working people struggle to survive.”

Nationwide protests are set to take place Saturday in opposition to the Trump administration and its allies, with leaders vowing to stand up to push back against the “most brazen power grab in modern history.”

The “Hands Off!” rallies are taking place in more than 1,000 cities across all 50 states, and nearly 400,000 people have signed up to attend them, according to the progressive organization Indivisible, which is one of the almost 200 groups partnering to organize the movement.

Other partner organizations include the American Civil Liberties Union, the League of Women Voters, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and various advocacy groups focusing on issues like climate change and voting rights.

“Donald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them,” the movement’s website states. “They’re taking everything they can get their hands on, and daring the world to stop them. On Saturday, April 5th, we’re taking to the streets nationwide to fight back with a clear message: Hands off!”

The protesters have three main demands: an end to the “billionaire takeover and rampant corruption” of the Trump administration; an end to cuts in federal funding for Social Security, Medicare and other programs that working people rely on; and an end to attacks on immigrants, trans people and other communities.

The website states that the country is facing a “national crisis” with Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid under threat, protections for workers being stripped and community members like immigrants, transgender individuals and political opponents being targeted.

 I haven't seen any news coverage of these "rallies," but I suspect the subject matter will run the gamut, from Musk to transgender rights to "we hate Israel." It's just what they do.

So last night, I watched two of the Indivisible training events where they trained activists for today’s totally pre-scripted, pre-planned and pre-orchestrated protests.

For a movement that continues to say they are non-violence they sure do use a lot of violent rhetoric. They call the Trump administration a “hostile takeover” and demand a “forceful rejection” of the current leadership.

“Hostile takeover” isn’t the language of peaceful assembly. It’s the language of regime change.

All the trainings prime protestors to see the government not as an institution to reform—but as something illegitimate and dangerous.

The rhetoric gets worse as the trainings go on:

•“We must meet this moment with mass mobilization.”

•“Stop the MAGA takeover of our government.”

•“All hands on deck to stop the fascist threat.”

Indivisible, MoveOn and Working Families Party all had representatives at the training and all three of them provided exact signs and verbiage and tips on how to avoid being tracked.

I have never heard of a spontaneous protest that has weekly organization calls, tool kits, and pre-printed signage for everyone.

Trump has been consistent on Social Security, he has no intention of doing anything negative in its regard.  So, why demonstrate on something that is not an issue. 

I do believe we need to make changes however for future recipients.  Longevity is not what it was when Social Security was started.  I think collecting prior to FRA should be halted for folks under age 50 or 55.  And I am a firm believer that individual accounts should be started, and end the Congress STEALING the funds earmarked for senior citizens.
