Over the wires...  per FBN/ White House

China has balked....   104% tariffs on China now in effect.  FBN punditry saying Pharma shortages will be the most pressing issue.

Why we allowed China to manufacture are drugs is something that never should have happened.  Blame big Phama, not Trump for this shit.

China will capitulate.

If China cannot get into this country and sell us goods, how can it continue to steal from us our technology?  It must be here to continue its brand of thievery it has perfected over the years.

They should have never been allowed to manufacture any of our electronics or automotive products either.  That goes back to the Clintons and their ChiCom pal Johnny Huang.

I suspect that G. H. W. Bush played a large role in it as well.

No, not there, there was a case with I think Trend micro boards, there was a hidden chip manufactured between the board platters.

China Strikes Back at Trump with Immediate 84% Tariffs on U.S. Goods

China is slapping 84 percent tariffs on U.S. goods from Thursday, ramping the impost up from the 34 percent as previously announced, its finance ministry said on Wednesday.

Not a 100% on my predictions, but possibly in a week, the main topic of discussions isn't going to be tariffs....  it might be embargoes.

Can Trump unilaterally push embargos? That's pretty nuts if true. That power should definitely be relegated to Congress if it's not already.

I was thinking more along lines of the Chinese imposing critical embargos on things like pharma, and rare earth metals.

Our side?  Outside agricultural, we don't have that many levers, especially since the trade imbalance is huge anyway.

If China can no longer send its junk here, where will they send it? Mars?

No argument there, where the problem is, is in the two items I highlighted.  We are talking critical medications, raw earth  materials to make high tech instrumentation and electronics in general.

It is downright criminal that our government  allowed pharma to be sent there.  If that isn't critical infrastructure, I don't know what is.

100% agree! We have rare earths right here in the good ole USA, we just need the government to allow us to get them.

Alot though of the most basic commodities are still made here. China makes alot of useless trinkets, things that are not often bought, and things that can be bought from other countries.

What I see is that those countries that want to play ball are going to see a ramp up in production, leaving China out of the loop.

Talk about it.   With a pending 100+% tariff, and a potential embargo,  Trump needs to do an emergency EO, to bypass permitting, and start mining construction and operations  ASAP.

I agree.  I said yesterday that we have a couple of decades of inherent junk that has accumulated in this country, that could easily facilitate a thrift shop economy for a decade easily.  It's the rare earth minerals, and pharma that we have to focus on. And Trump needs to take a Manhattan Project approach to getting ourselves out of reliance of others on these

@roamer_1 's point is valid though on that point, no way he can do that in 4 years.

It's the rare earth minerals, and pharma that we have to focus on.

That definitely is where we are vulnerable, though both are solvable if the political will is there.

If.
