Trump unveils $5 million 'gold card' to lure wealthy immigrants to U.S.

April 3 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump on Friday unveiled a $5 million "gold card" with his image on it that the administration hopes to sell to migrants to lower the national debt.

Trump unveiled the card while talking with reporters aboard Air Force One, calling it the "Trump card."
 

"For $5 million, this could be used," Trump told reporters. "It was the first of the cards. You know what that card is, it's the gold card, the Trump card. Pretty exciting, right? Anybody want to buy one?"

You realize that poaching the world's rich will also mean taxing them on personal and business ncome plus capital gains?  Plus bringing it that extra level of investment.  Yeah, it comes across as a cheesy promotion, but in theory is it is ingenious

You do realize that most of the worlds rich didn’t get that way because they’re stupid, and they’ll only take this deal if their overall worldwide tax burden drops, so no, it won’t really mean an increase in tax revenues. It’ll mean the creation of a new wealthy elite that pays even less tax than it pays currently.

Baloney.  If they are citizens, they'll have to fill out the same 1040's and 1041's like the rest us.  And actually they'll come out ahead since the US tax system is more generous that the EU counterparts.  If they declare singular citizenship here, they'll only pay tax here.  So yes, their tax burden will likely drop.  Except we will be the beneficiaries of their taxes instead of some other country.

Your thinking is in term of political influence?  And more money related political influence?  In some ways that's already on us with Soros and Musk.  But you bring up a good point,  but as long as we restrict these newly minted citizens to just money, and not becoming legislators or Presidents, I think the good outweighs the bad.

Say each card owner is a Billionaire, or averages a billion net worth, -  And sees personal and business income at $100M ea.  That means a perpetual tax stream of about ($20M x 5000 citizens) of a $1B per year

Then add trickle down business ventures....  And those incomes, and tax payments...   etc.

There are other countries that do just this with less bravado, like Australia.  I just see this is a innovative way of many we can do to chisel down the debt.

But to your point.....I am not real thrilled  with it either, but seeing our debt balloon to $37T is going to take some drastic measures including the cheesy.

I like your POV often, so what is your solution to the debt?  As much in love I am with the DOGE movement, its not going to be enough.  See my post above....  I am guessing that if that administered right, and with applied trickle down, we could easily see 1 trillion realized with this initiative.

Except under Obama and Biden's watch you are seeing factions that DOGE is exposing that were massive purveyors of fraud and waste.   Big difference.

And to the other point, I am open to innovative and even cheesy ways if it helps us narrow the trade imbalance and the deficit.  Do you think we'd seen DOGE with those 2?    The ultra conservative that I  am says that I am not 100% sold on running an economy on tariffs.  On paper...  it sucks.  But I can see and understand that the strategy is more based on negotiations and fair trade.   I am sure Trump has no interest in long term trade wars.  And again, as me as a broken record.  Look at Trump's chart.....   Every proposed tariff is lower or at the same as the corresponding nation.  I just can't see why people are going apoplectic over this.

Everything we live, is based on risk/reward.  At this exact moment, I support the POTUS.  Because otherwise, what got us here, got us $37T in debt.

If the U.S. was such a great tax haven, they’d already be here.  It’s not.  They prefer to do their US investing from offshore - capital gains are sourced to place of residence, so no NRA trader on the stock exchange, for example, is paying US income tax on those gains.
