Following the recent joint American-Philippine-Japanese naval drills in the Pacific, the United States is clearly gearing up for potential kinetic conflict in the South China Sea in the near future. Tensions between Beijing and Washington have been on an upward spiral for years, marking the need to introduce more lethal and advanced military systems all around. The race to field the world’s first sixth-generation platforms is ongoing for both the United States and the People’s Republic of China (PRC). In an effort to maintain aerial supremacy, the U.S. Air Force is banking on a host of upcoming programs, all expected to blow competitors out of the water. From the Next-Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program and the introduction of the related Collaborative Combat Aircraft to the B-21 stealth bomber, the service’s engineers are quite busy.
