Biblical flooding and deadly tornadoes forecasted in over 15 US states TODAY

A massive storm is set to bring life-threatening tornadoes and potentially historic floods in what could be the worst 24 hours of extreme weather this year.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warn that over 15 states are in the path of this major storm which is bringing intense rainfall to millions of people from the Gulf Coast to the Northeast.

The storm watches now include Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, Arkansas, West Virginia, and portions of Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas.

More than a foot of rain will accumulate in some areas between Wednesday and Saturday. There could be well over 18 inches of rainfall in parts of Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and Kentucky, AccuWeather warned.

Very large hail and 'significant' damaging winds are also expected in these states.

The rest of the Mid-South is also facing a 'severe threat' today. These areas can expect to see a 'more scattered but still significant threat of tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds,' the NWS stated.

AccuWeather senior storm warning meteorologist William Clark warned that this storm could bring four to five months' worth of rain to a 1,000-mile-long swath of the country in just four days.

The worst of this historic flood event is expected to submerge portions of Arkansas, Missouri, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, and Indiana starting Wednesday night.

18" of rain is more than I want to deal with.... so yeah that would cause major problems most anywhere. 10" of rain wipes us out here.

We've been under tornado watches/warnings almost all week...had one go over our house the other night..thank goodness it did not touch down...now we have rain, rain and more rain....tomorrow night more storms and probably tornadoes....I am beyond a nervous wreck...

I remember back in 67 in N. Il we had a bad April tornado season. Two weeks of storms.  Lots of 'nado's. I remember sitting on the roof watching them and my mom yelling at my brother and me to get our ass off the roof and into the basement.  Fun times.   I think it was what defined my life. I don't fear weather.  You just deal with it.

I don't blame you @Sighlass but a few years ago I got 56" over a four-day period. Not even remotely Biblical.

I think it also depends on location (mountains)... Most folks got between 10 - 15 inches of rain in North Carolina during Helene, with a few getting upwards of 30 inches. Here 7" of rain floods the whole south end of town to where you can't even get to the hospital. Mudslides close the mountain road access. I can't imagine what 15" inches would do... Once a single thunderstorm camped out on the mountain in the late 80s (dumped 10" of rain), and drained into the canyon, it took 3 years for them to reopen the canyon park due to how the mountain funnels the water.... The bridges were gone, the roads were gone, even railroad tracks were gone.

56" would wipe us off the map.

So today I spent the day hauling wood chips (our 4th truckload). I have been over the past two years trying to build up an embankment to keep the water from flooding our yard so bad during storms from the runoff from the ridge. I am sunburnt and tired.
