About That Third Term
Kevin McCullough

In the ever-turbulent arena of American politics, the specter of double standards looms large. Recent uproar over President Donald Trump's musings about a potential third term starkly contrasts with the muted reactions to former President Barack Obama's similar contemplations. This glaring inconsistency not only exposes media bias but also underscores a troubling trend of selective outrage that undermines the very fabric of our democratic discourse.

On March 30, 2025, President Trump, during a candid interview with NBC News, hinted at exploring avenues for a third term, stating, “There are methods which you could do it.” He went further, saying, “I’m not joking,” signaling a serious consideration of the idea.

Cue the media meltdown. Legacy outlets like The Guardian ran dramatic headlines warning of impending authoritarianism. The Atlantic declared it a “democracy-altering” threat. Pundits tripped over each other racing to call it "fascist." Legal scholars popped up like prairie dogs quoting the 22nd Amendment, which since 1951 has barred presidents from serving more than two terms. Jeremy Paul, a constitutional law professor at Northeastern University, told CBS News, “There are no credible legal arguments for him to run for a third term.”

The fact that the left doesn't understand the concept of trolling, just makes me wonder just how intelligent they are.  Or are are they just infinitely gullible.

One Orange Man's trolling is another's trial balloon.

If it succeeds, bravo.  If it flies like a lead zepplin, he can say he was just kidding.

Those 'trolls' are his straw polls to see how much support he'll have from Congressional Republicans.

But...but...It's okay when they do it.

No third term, but let's make the second one count. Yo! Congress! Get off your 'seats' or lose them!

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Don't forget that this guy's trolling with McD's and Garbage trucks, and other innovative ways, helped him get elected.  I'll grant that this is a two edged sword.  And you are right....only time will tell.  And from the POV of a 3rd term,  only the most incredibly stupid or gullible are taking that hook.  So unless he can somehow revoke the 22nd amendment by early 2028.  (primaries)...  It is what it is. He can't have a 3rd term.

This is just another trolling exercise  to make the left wing heads explode.

The McD's and garbage truck stunts were brilliant politics. Threatening to circumvent the Constitution's limits on presidential power is not a troll. Especially with the way he's been governing the past few months with the executive orders, the Meme Department, and the antagonizing Canada. This guy is pushing the limits of constitutional power as it is. The last thing anyone needs is to obliterate it--and if you think about it, even if the Republican Party went along, what is the mechanism to stop it? There are states that would put him on the ballot and send electors to vote him in. It's not clear the feds could actually outlaw that or who would even have standing to stop it in court. Then what? Our Constitution becomes unenforceable.
