Columbia University interim president steps down amid clash with Trump admin over federal funding
Former Columbia President Minouche Shafik resigned in August amid anti-Israel campus protests

Interim Columbia University President Katrina Armstrong has stepped down amidst a clash with the Trump administration over federal funding.

"Dr. Armstrong accepted the role of interim president at a time of great uncertainty for the University and worked tirelessly to promote the interests of our community," said David J. Greenwald, chair of the board of trustees, said in a news release late Friday. "Katrina has always given her heart and soul to Columbia. We appreciate her service and look forward to her continued contributions to the University."

Fox News also confirmed that board of trustees co-chair Claire Shipman has been appointed as the acting university president until the board completes its presidential search. Shipman has been on the board since 2013.

Armstrong is expected to return to lead the university’s Irving Medical Center, Fox News has learned. Armstrong reportedly had a good relationship with the Department of Education.

The Trump administration recently pulled federal funding from Columbia University and put major pressure on Armstrong to make changes on campus.

Columbia University President Resigns After School Accepts Trump's Demands
 
Columbia University announced Friday that its interim president, Katrina A. Armstrong, was stepping down. The news arrives a week after the university caved to a list of demands from the Trump administration, which refused to restore $400 million in federal funding unless drastic concessions were made.
 
Armstrong had replaced former university President Minouche Shafik, who resigned last August after a firestorm of criticism of Shafik's handling of student protests against the ongoing war in Gaza.

According to a statement from Columbia, Board of Trustees Co-Chair Claire Shipman has been appointed Acting President, effective immediately.

"Dr. Armstrong accepted the role of interim president at a time of great uncertainty for the University and worked tirelessly to promote the interests of our community," said David J. Greenwald, Chair of the Board of Trustees. "Katrina has always given her heart and soul to Columbia. We appreciate her service and look forward to her continued contributions to the University."
 

Armstrong will return to lead the school's Irving Medical Center, per the statement.

She resigned because she got caught lying.  With that said, her interim successor Claire Shipman will be no better.

And she still gets to go back to her cushy tenured professorship, so no real loss, and thus no real consequences.

She was only interim anyway.  I guess after that Zoom transcript was released, the one they tried to stop and then hide, she went to the Trustees and said that she had had enough...that was not what she had signed up for.  So now it's Shipman's (Mrs. Jay Carney) turn to sit in the hot seat.

Close Columbia down.

Fire the administration and faculty.

Send the students home with the admonition to go out and get a real job.

Give the property to the homeless. It will be better used for having done so.

That's my position and I'm stickin' to it.
