When President Trump convened CEOs of some of the country’s top automakers for a call earlier this month, he issued a warning: They better not raise car prices because of tariffs.

Trump told the executives that the White House would look unfavorably on such a move, leaving some of them rattled and worried they would face punishment if they increased prices, people with knowledge of the call said

So now Trump is threatening price controls. How conservative of him. NOT!

This is the same threat that Hugo Chavez made when he was dictator of Venezuela to businesses that had to raise prices due to his policies

So what is Trump going to do when businesses are forced to raise prices due to his tariffs? Expropriate them? And he would do it to the cheers of his MAGA base

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Right-wing Head of State taking control of the private economy?

That's quite delusionary thinking.
Are Trump Admin officials snorting Provigil?

I hope that someone's in the admin has Trump's ear and can bring him to reason about this issue, his popularity is at a record high, prices are coming down... why fix something that isn't broke at the moment?

It's very disappointing that Trump seems to be doing his level best to make that image come true.

When Harris came up with her idiotic “price gouging”  idea to control high prices, she was rightly mocked here and elsewhere for it

Yet when Trump comes up with this, except for a few, silence **nononono*

MAGA is absolutely a cult.  88devil 88devil 88devil

Who'll bailout the car companies when they go bankrupt for selling their cars for less than the cost to manufacture them?

This guy is supposed to be a businessman.
This guy HAS to know that tariffs mean significantly higher costs.
This guy has to know those higher costs MUST be passed on to the buyer.

How can he possibly make such a statement?

He's a Businessman not a Politician as Trumpers say.
He's started 24 Businesses and filed Bankruptcy on 6~25% failure rate.
We, as a Nation, are setting the bar too low.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Wow  :thud: :thud: :thud:

In 1913, for reasons unknown to mankind, they established the income tax so that citizens rather than foreign countries would start paying the money necessary to run our government," Trump said. "Then, in 1929, it all came to a very abrupt end with the Great Depression, and it would have never happened if they had stayed with the tariff policy; it would have been a much different story. They tried to bring back tariffs to save our country, but it was gone. It was gone. It was too late. Nothing could have been done."

On what theory?
The theory that what the government gives, the government can take away. Corporations are an invention of government, a promise not to hold shareholders liable for their own company's malfeasance.

That has to end.

Really... so if my 401k holds stock in Boeing through a fund of some sort, I should be held liable if a plane crashes?

Then you’d better start pimping to change the corporation law of all 50 states.  Piercing the veil is only permitted where the corporation as a separate entity has been ignored.  It’s not available just because jmyrlr has a hissy fit about limited liability.

You’ll also have to change partnership law - LPs and LLPs - to get your desired political ends.

And once you’ve done that, you can forget about most medicines, industrial products, and etc.   good luck with that.

Funny how you criticize Trump - rightly - for stupid ideas and then come up with your own whoppers.
