The problem with "how much DOGE has saved" figures at this point is that some of the "savings" are cuts to things that should not have been cut and will probably be restored. I give as an example the $50 million dollar grant to my institution for research on agricultural adaptation to climate change. This is not bogus research predicated on the delusion that human activity will cause run-away warming, but sober research on how farmers can grow crops with less water, in warmer conditions, regardless of the cause of the warming or the drought. Cutting all grants that have "climate" in their title is absurd, since some are doing research that will benefit the United States (or mankind including Americans) without regard to what is causing droughts, warming, floods, etc. Likewise it is absurd to cut all funding for research in anti-viral drugs (as was recently announced), simply because COVID evolved into yet another virus that causes a head cold (albeit a nasty one) and we aren't in a pandemic any more.
