The Atlantic is propaganda Trash always has been.

Love Pete but this is a big blunder.  I'm taking him at his word that The Atlantic exaggerated the whole top secret war plans thing and I hope I'm not proven wrong.

Except that the White House admitted that the story was true and Goldberg had the receipts. Sorry but Hegseth hurt his own credibility here.

With that said, it was National Security Advisor Michael Waltz who mistakenly added Goldberg to the Signal chat group, thinking that it was U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, who is also a member of the National Security Council.

Next question is why does Waltz have Goldberg in his contacts list on Signal?

Pretty sure the US Secretary of Defense doesn't micro-manage things, like setting up a meeting list, so this is probably on Waltz.

Still, an amateurish move, even if it's better that it came to light ... what if Goldberg hadn't made it public, and just kept listening in on the "secret" meetings for months/years?

@neoavatara
The same people that (RIGHTFULLY!) dragged Hillary over the coals for her unsecured server are today strangely quiet about the DOD basically making public an entire war plan.

This is why those people shouldn't ever be taken seriously. Ever.

the DOD basically making public an entire war plan.
I guess the question is whether it really was an entire war plan, or just tossing ideas around. Not trying to justify this situation, just wondering.

Note what a National Security Council spokesperson said when asked about the chat:  ""The thread is a demonstration of the deep and thoughtful policy coordination between senior officials."

The thing that suggests my theory is wrong is Goldberg's assertion that detailed targeting data was later shared, which he says he refused to disclose due to its sensitive nature. I would need to see that data myself to decide how sensitive it actually was. But I don't really trust Jeffrey Goldberg on... well... anything except his willingness to say or do anything to destroy Trump.

Note that Goldberg's article specifically says that the chat discussed classified info being shared on "the high side" (i.e., classified SIPRNET) and that every time he mentions what he believes to be classified info he says "conceivably."

The person who is least trustworthy in this whole thing is Goldberg.

There's no dispute about whether Mike Waltz added Jeffrey Goldberg to a sensitive chat. There *is* dispute about whether he was sent "war plans." Goldberg has a history of false reporting so skepticism of how he characterizes important info is more than warranted.

'Mike Waltz is a f***ing idiot': Official blamed for revealing Trump team's texts saying they 'loathe bailing out' Europe's 'pathetic free-loaders' is 'not going to survive this' stunned White House insiders say

White House insiders have vented their anger at National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, with one reportedly calling him a 'f***ing idiot' after it emerged that he added a prominent journalist to a secret group chat revealing highly sensitive war plans.

'Everyone in the White House can agree on one thing: Mike Waltz is a f***ing idiot,' the source, identified as a 'person close to the White House', bluntly told Politico.

The Atlantic magazine's editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg revealed yesterday that he was invited by Waltz to join a chat on the encrypted app Signal entitled 'Houthi PC small group.'

Goldberg was then privy to conversations between Waltz, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance and other top administration officials, about military strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen.

'I'm thinking to myself, I'm glad Mike Waltz didn't invite a Houthi into the group or a Russian spy, or an adversary of the United States,' Goldberg told MSNBC.

It remains unclear who Waltz intended to invite to the group chat and why such a large volume of classified information was being shared on a commercial messaging app.

'It was reckless not to check who was on the thread. It was reckless to be having that conversation on Signal. You can't have recklessness as the national security advisor,' one official told Politico.

The news site reported late last night that some officials believe that Waltz must now be pushed out or resign to save President Trump from being put in a 'bad position'. ...

In timeless Washington fashion, Waltz is now blaming some staffer for adding Goldberg to his contacts list on Signal.

Trump not planning to fire Waltz after national security text chain leak
National Security Adviser Mike Waltz has no plans to resign after The Atlantic's reporting of Signal security breach
By Peter Doocy , Danielle Wallace Fox News
Published March 25, 2025 7:05am EDT | Updated March 25, 2025 8:42am EDT

President Donald Trump is not planning to fire National Security Adviser Mike Waltz in the wake of The Atlantic's reporting of an apparent national security breach, Fox News has learned.

A source close to the president told Fox News that Waltz's job is safe and that he is not on the chopping block.

Fox News is told Waltz has no plans to resign and is sticking to his schedule Tuesday. He will be talking to his Russian counterpart about a Black Sea ceasefire deal and has plans to speak to Trump as usual later Tuesday.

Waltz is also telling colleagues that he has never met or talked to the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, Fox News has learned.

A senior White House official revealed how Goldberg may have been added to the Signal text chain with Cabinet members.

The official told Fox News that he has never met and has never spoken to Goldberg. Somehow, Goldberg’s number was added to one of the members of the list, the senior official said, noting that Signal is allowed in multiple agencies.

It appears that Goldberg's number was added to a contact card by one of the Trump administration staffers, Fox News has learned. The chat had Cabinet officials plus some of those officials' staffers.

OK, I have been talking about this Atlantic/Signal thing all day, as have a ton of other X people.

I think it's time to take a deep breathe, step back, and list only those things we objectively KNOW to be true, with certainty:
1. Jeffrey Goldberg was somehow invited to a Signal chat with America's national security leaders, and then wrote an article about it in The Atlantic.
2. The portion of the chat that Goldberg revealed included zero classified information and merely reflected thoughtful, unclassified coordination between those same leaders.
3. Goldberg wrote that part of that chat was a discussion about how certain classified information would be shared on "the high side" (i.e., classified IT systems) and not in the chat.
4. Goldberg further wrote that the chat included information that HE believed could "conceivably" be classified, but he did not show any of that information.
5. Jeffrey Goldberg is a notorious Trump hater who has repeatedly participated in outrageous anti-Trump hoaxes such as "Trump/Russia Collusion" and "suckers and losers."

That's it. THAT'S ALL WE KNOW FOR SURE. Everything else is speculation.
That's where we stand in terms of objective reality.  Now let the chips fall where they may.

The way the Trump hating news media is hyperventilating leads me to believe this is a nothing burger.  All Trump has to do to kick this off the news cycle is to announce another dept closing or bomb Iran.  I say, bomb Iran.

Excerpt:National Security Adviser Mike Waltz just landed in hot water after a colossal blunder that’s got Trump supporters demanding answers—and some calling for his head. Jeffrey Goldberg, the virulently anti-Trump editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, claims he was accidentally added to a secure Signal group chat dubbed “Houthi PC small group,” where top Trump officials—including Waltz, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Vice President JD Vance—discussed sensitive military plans to strike Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, per The Atlantic.

A reasonable theory, but it's a bit disconcerting to think that any Outlook contact can be invited to a secure chat. Somehow I had pictured something more rigorous.

I don't care what anyone says, this is an unforced error, and a distraction of the matters at hand.  That is unless, he can show some proof that the texts were hoaxes.

I supported Hegseth's nomination.  I suggest he says he made a mistake, learns from it, and moves on.

Dem senator calls for Waltz, Hegseth to resign as Gabbard says no classified material shared in Signal
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard grilled by Democrat senator on Signal text chain
By Greg Norman Fox News
Published March 25, 2025 11:22am EDT

Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., called for national security advisor Mike Waltz and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to resign Tuesday following an apparent national security breach.

The demand came after Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard vowed during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing that there was "no classified material" shared in a Signal text chat that an editor from The Atlantic said he had access to. The U.S. operation against the Houthis in Yemen was reportedly discussed in the chat between senior Cabinet officials.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.

If this really was a national security issue, shouldn't the editor of "The Atlantic" be held for treason for disclosing the text on "X"?

Earlier, Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., grilled Gabbard over the nature of the texts.............
