Elon Musk said that one of the wilder discoveries his Department of Government Efficiency has made is 14 'magic money computers' that can send payments from thin air. Musk's DOGE has already slashed staffing at several federal agencies, cut federal spending and in an unprecedented move emailed federal employees asking 'what they got done last week'.

Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) boss Elon Musk sounded the alarm on Monday about the existence of what he calls “magic money computers.”

Appearing on Sen. Ted Cruz’s “Verdict” podcast, he spoke of discovering computers in several departments, including the State Department and Treasury Department, that he alleged “just make money out of thin air” through their blank-check authority.

“You may think that the government computers all talk to each other, they’re synchronized, they add up what funds are going where and it’s coherent and that the numbers you’re presented as a senator are the real numbers,” he explained.

“One would think. They’re not. I mean, they’re not totally wrong, But they’re probably off by 5 percent or 10 percent in some cases. I call a magic money computer any computer which can just make money out of thin air. It just issues payments,” he added.

Just because he doesn't know how those systems work doesn't make them "magic money computers." But for a guy who fancies himself the smartest man in the room, being in over his head is something I don't think he can admit.

It just might be that these systems were set up in such a way that their payment systems could be exploited to obscure the distribution of funds to those not entitled to them.

He defined the term, as computers that could issue payments without a clear origin for the money.

It’s hard to keep up with all the waste and fraud allegations coming out of the DOGE deep-dives into the labyrinth depths of federal funding swamps. Musk just went on Ted Cruz’s Verdict podcast and revealed some new twists.

    Musk estimates that there is an 80/20 ratio of waste to fraud in the federal budget and says $1 trillion in annual savings is not outside the realm of possibility.

    “You don’t need to be Sherlock Holmes, okay? It’s very obvious, basic stuff. In every government department, and I say ‘every’ because we’ve not yet found a single exception, there are far too many software licenses and media subscriptions, meaning many more software licenses and media subscriptions than there are humans in the department. Like, an agency with 15,000 people might have 30,000 licenses,” Musk said. “We found entire situations of software licenses or media subscriptions where there were zero logins. And yet we were paying for it. Yes, the government was paying for thousands of licenses of software or media subscriptions, and no one had ever logged in even once. Or, like credit cards—you found the same thing with government credit cards. We found that there are twice as many credit cards as there are humans.”

    “I still don’t have a good explanation for why this is the case. And these are $10,000-limit cards, so it’s a lot of money.”

    “It’s like 80% waste, 20% fraud but you do have sort of gray areas. We saw a lot of payments going out of treasury that had no payment code, no explanation to the payment,” Musk said. “Like a contract was supposed to be shut off, but someone forgot to shut it off, so the company kept getting money. is that waste or fraud? Both.”

The US dollar is not just a fiat currency it has long been a digital currency. Most "dollars" these days are electronic, they get passed around with credit or debit cards or by electronic transfer.

Given that the Federal Reserve can create these electronic dollars then so can someone else who can register electronic dollars in the SWIFT banking and exchange system.

You don't need a printing press for these dollars, just a keyboard.

There was a "scam" about 10 years ago. When calculating taxes on something it did not always come out to an even penny. So the programmer had the computer "deposit" the partial penny into the very last name on the account ledger. It may not seem like much, but when you are talking about thousands of transactions a minute and millions per day. It will add up.

There need to be more audits, more Congressional oversight, and Congressional re-authorization for agents of the Administrative State,

If Congress is not passing laws and not passing budgets, why do we need them anymore?

We could have Auto-Pen autosign Continuing Resolutions; and have the country ruled via Executive Orders and Federal Judges.

How much money could DOGE save by cancelling Congress?

I am.
The U.S. Treasury pays me off for a t-bill every Tuesday.
I won't get [super] rich from them, but they're now paying all my living costs (taxes, insurance, utilities, etc.). Don't have to touch my retirement payments.

I earned a grand total of $174 in bank interest in 2023.
Had to find a better way, and I did.
This year, the government will pay me more than 85 times that, if the interest rates don't fall.

So... let the debt roll on.
And keep those rates up!

Old folks with savings have suffered for a couple of decades with low interest on their savings.
Yet the interest on credit cards were usurious. None of our Congressmen or Senators ever did anything about it.
