Although a means to introduce poison, pathogen, or even destructive devices close to the president has been identified as a result of this incident, I do not believe this was the result of malice.
The cover on the mike indicates wind noise was expected, and is to prevent or reduce that.
An inexperienced microphone operator might easily have failed to control the mic.

Here's an idea, NPR is banned for 1 year from direct coverage of the POTUS.  No reporter, boom boob, or camera man. 

The first thought I had when I saw this was the movie Air Force One with Harrison Ford.  In the movie, a Russian news crew was permitted to fly on Air Force One, and they seized the plane.

Again, the vetting of people in the press is clearly piss poor.  I just don't want any scenarios like the movie to happen to President Trump, and I do not trust anyone working for the Secret Service or FBI.  Trump really needs his own security.
