Witkoff, American Delegation Arrive in Moscow For Ceasefire Talks With Putin

A delegation of United States diplomats arrived in Moscow on Thursday morning for talks on agreeing a ceasefire in the Ukraine War, with a possible call between President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin to follow.

America’s Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff flew into Moscow’s Vnukovo airport on Thursday morning, having travelled from Doha, Qatar by way of European airspace on a Gulfstream executive jet. Witkoff and a team of negotiators are in the Russian capital to attempt to hammer out an agreement on the proposed Ukraine War 30-day ceasefire.

To this point Russia has been relatively circumspect on the ceasefire, saying only after it was agreed in principle by the U.S. and Ukraine that they would wait for further details from Washington to study before commenting further. The two nations had agreed to work towards peace at talks in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, a decision that saw the Trump administration resume military and intelligence support to the Kyiv government.

Russia presents US with demands that need to be met before ending Ukraine war: report
The demands are reportedly similar to things the Kremlin has sought in the past

Russia has laid out a list of demands to U.S. authorities that need to be met in order for the war in Ukraine to end, Reuters reported, citing two people "familiar with the matter."

The requests are also aimed at resetting the Kremlin's relations with Washington, D.C., the outlet noted.

The list of demands came just before Russia’s Defense Ministry announced it has taken over Sudzha, the biggest town in the Kursk region that has been overrun by Ukrainian forces since the surprise cross-border offensive in August 2024. The takeover came after Russian President Vladimir Putin visited military headquarters in the region and spoke to military commanders there.

The exact contents of Russia's list of demands are not yet known, but they are allegedly similar to demands previously presented to Ukraine, the U.S. and NATO.

Russian and American officials have allegedly discussed the terms over the past few weeks in person and virtually, the people told Reuters.

 Russian document proposes prolonging Ukraine war, undermining Trump-led peace talks: No resolution ‘before 2026’

A document prepared for the Kremlin proposes that Russia prolong the Ukraine war and drag out peace talks led by President Trump so that “a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis cannot happen before 2026.”

European intelligence services obtained the document — written by an influential think tank in Moscow with ties to Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) in February — that suggests Moscow should be ready to undermine any possible peace deal with a list of outlandish demands in order to keep the war going, the Washington Post reports.

It outlines ways Russia could benefit from raising tensions among the US, China and the EU to derail Trump’s position to negotiate peace and says it’s “impossible” for a peace deal to be reached between the warring nations within 100 days.
