US to talk to Russia today and says 'up to them to say yes' on Ukraine ceasefire plan

The US will speak to Russia today about the plan for a ceasefire in the Ukraine war, Secretary of State Marco Rubio says

He says "the ball is truly in their court" and the only way to end the war is by negotiating

Earlier, Russia said it would wait to be briefed by American officials before commenting - and that it was "studying statements"

Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire on Tuesday after talks with the US - the first official meeting between the two countries since the public clash between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump

A former Putin adviser tells the BBC the ceasefire proposals give Putin a "dilemma" and that "Biden was just an enemy, Trump is a rival"

Strikes on Ukraine continued overnight, Kyiv says, while Russia claims to have recaptured more of its Kursk region from Ukraine...............

Russians might say "yes", but provide clandestine support to insurgent Russian nationalists in Ukraine.  Putin may change his tactics, but he won't give up on his goal of a USSR v2.0 and a Warsaw Pact v2.0.

Talk about holding all the cards.  All Trump needs to do, is tell Putin that he we make it an obsessive point to flood the oil market, and get oil down to about $40-$50/bbl.

Then it is game over....   militarily and economically.

Yep.

Keep using the economic power of the US as a weapon.

It's always fascinated me how Putin has survived politically.  Even things back in the old USSR were brutal when things went sideways.

When it gets to the point where he can't get his starving army back from Ukraine might be a tipping point, but I wouldn't bet much at that hunch.
