Eggs Drop To Pre-Trump Prices, Dismantling Media’s Favorite Talking Point

Most mainstream media narratives say the health of the U.S. economy rides on the day-to-day cost of eggs, and persistently high prices prove that President Donald Trump is failing at his job. But that talking point fell flat on Tuesday after officials announced that the price of a dozen eggs is now lower than when the Republican took office.

The news was broken by Brooke Rollins, the president’s secretary of agriculture, during an interaction with the media.

“We’re more focused on how we bring the price of eggs down and the avian bird flu for everyone,” Rollins said about the virus that’s killed hundreds of millions of chickens in the past year. “A good piece of news we’ve gotten in the last day or two is the price of a dozen eggs has now gone down a dollar and eighty-five cents since we announced our plan about a week and a half ago.”

Yep.  WallyWorld had them for about 5 bucks.   Looks like we wont have to color potatoes for Easter this year.

Curiously close to the 120 days it takes for a young hen to lay, and also in alignment with March, when hens tend to increase production compared to winter... YUP.

Fake news.

They have not come down at store

It all depends on what's available still.  I just paid $10.99 for a doz Amish jumbo eggs.  They had other brands that used to be cheaper, but they were the same price.  I'd rather give my business to the Amish - cage free.

$8.12/doz. at Walmart in Central California today. I recall them being around $6.39/doz. in January at WM??  I may be recalling the price of another previous month.

I held out as long as I could, but had to get some eggs today. They were $5.29 at our local Kroger, down 70 cents from last week. Didn't have a chance to comparison shop, alas. Well, actually, I have a friend with chickens who sells them for $5, but it wouldn't be worth driving 30 miles - one gallon of gas - to save 29 cents.

Inflation is coming down slowly but surely. I have a friend on FB who is posting (I THOUGHT TRUMP WOULD FIX THE EGG PROBLEM) so this will be nice to post in response.

Gas is also at a multiyear low too.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Walmart here, 5 bucks a dozen in the 5 dozen box (which I don't buy, because of bad experiences with broken eggs and even one in which the 'white' was pink--a sign of bacterial infection in the egg).

One of the local grocers has 18 count eggs at roughly 7 dollars, which comes out cheaper than the high by almost 4 bucks, and comes in at a shade below $5 per dozen. The added benefit is that I can check fro breakage or nasty cracks before I buy them.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
