If the attacks are originating in Ukraine then there's a relatively small number of IP addresses to block:

And the .ua country code top-level domain is also easily blocked. Heck, you can run your own DDoS against it if you know the target which Musk is claiming here.

And if the C&C is in Ukraine then that is easily blocked.

IMHO Musk is grasping at straws here assigning blame on a DDoS attack when the very nature of these attacks is to attack from all over the world at the same time.

There are also these things called VPN and relays which allow you to ping from anywhere you want. They're not really a secret. I'm using a relay and a VPN right now.

Bottom line is I'm not nearly as smart as Elon Musk and I can contain one of these if I have the same information he claims to have. Maybe he should have his security team call me and I'll show them how to do this.

Not as easy blocking attacks that use outside computers that have been compromised by hackers... thus blocking the country will only help somewhat... Hackers take over computers worldwide and then program them to attack at a certain time... Being he runs a very large website, I am sure his techs are experts at finding general sources of attacks. I think you are just being overly protective of the country at this time. I didn't detect a tone of partiality in Elon's voice like he held it against the country, just more of a "it is what it is" thing.

There was a guy on a cable show  who deals with these sorts of attacks. He said that Ukraine would be stupid to attack EM. The Russians are a possibility, but the most likely attacker was another group altogether, known for this sort of trouble-making attack. I do not remember the name.

The hacker group that recently claimed responsibility for an attack on X is called Dark Storm Team.

Exactly.  He has stated a couple of times the attack is coming from Ukraine and gives no further info.  I'm sure he knows more than what he's relaying to the general public.

I would think that it is more than likely that Musk's information is accurate; he has the resources to find out exactly where the attacks are coming from and is not divulging how he knows it's Ukraine.

Yeah, because those Russians, they're just misunderstood Eagle Scouts, and they'd never route an attack on 'X' through the forces they have in Ukraine, even assuming for the sake of argument the geolocation is correct.
